Just wanted to say, and she wasn't born on a Wednesday!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
savoycabbage · 10/12/2008 13:25

I like it.

UnquietDad · 10/12/2008 13:29

Did you collapse in relief after giving birth, take one look at your DH and say "Enough with the children thing. Let's call it a day?"

ThomcatIsForLifeNotJustForXmas · 10/12/2008 13:34

Actually MadameAnt - it's not a massively straightforward abbreviation to me but that's not what I meant. What I meant was if you love the name Wednesday, and that's what you're calling your child why then in the next breath say you're going to abbreviate it to another name altogether?

claireybaubles · 10/12/2008 13:37

Wednesday was my favourite word for a long time

(at the moment I like microdermabrasion-would you consider that for your next baby? )

MadamAnt · 10/12/2008 13:52

rofl UQD

ThomCat - I was actually replying to Nancy. Surely most people call their child by an abbreviation of their name or by a pet name. I generally call DS by an abbreviation of his name, and only occasionally take the time to revel in his full four-syllabled moniker.

Boco · 10/12/2008 13:54

Lol at UQD channeling Tommy Cooper

ggirlsbells · 10/12/2008 13:59

if you love it so much why are you calling her daisy?

MadamAnt · 10/12/2008 14:00

Would you be asking the same thing of someone who calls their DD Lizzie or Betty instead of Elizabeth?

thisisyesterday · 10/12/2008 14:01

why shouldn't she abbreviate it? loads of people do, doesn't mean they don't love the longer version as well.

it seems to me that on these names threads you either get "oooh, that's awful, give her a longer version and then just use a nickname"

or, "ooh why are you using a nickname, just use the long version"

does it really matter??
ds2 is called Gabriel. he often gets called Gabe. doesn't mean we're embarrassed about Gabriel. just means we can't be arsed saying the whole thing :P and Gabe is cool too.

I know another liitle Wednesday actually, named after Wednesday Addams and she is a darling

ggirlsbells · 10/12/2008 14:05

just seems odd to start a thread about how fab the name is then say btw she's called daisy

MadamAnt · 10/12/2008 14:08

Maybe the flexibility is one of the things the OP loves about the name?

Boco · 10/12/2008 14:15

but also, gabe makes sense as it's a shortened version of gabriel - 3 syllables down to 1. Also Lizzie from Elizabeth, it's shorter. But Daisy and Wednesday both 2, unless you say 'wed - nes- day - so they are both just two totally different names of the same length, it's not shortening it. And Wedensday lovely, so is Daisy, so yes, doesn't really matter, just don't see the point.

Nancy66 · 10/12/2008 14:16

But Lizzy IS an abbreviation of Elizabeth - Gabe IS an abbreviation of Gabriel. Daisy is just a totally different name - and a rather more conventional and 'normal' name than Wednesday. Just thought it seemed a little odd that's all.

LilMatchGirlInVictorianSqualor · 10/12/2008 14:22

Often people who choose to call their DD Elizabeth and then shorten it to Libby or Beth or Betty call them Elizabeth because they like the nickname though.

BalloonSlayer · 10/12/2008 14:23

Do you pronounce it Wensday?

or Wed - ens - day?

Confess can't stand 2nd pronunciation, seems too precise, Alan Bennett-ish.

(See also: veg - et - ables)

lizziemun · 10/12/2008 14:29

One of my dsister nickname is 'wensday'. Her names Wendy.

UnquietDad · 10/12/2008 14:34

I'm surprised not to have met any "Wednesdays" where I am, given the footballing affiliation of people around here. I bet some blokes would have wanted to get away with it and were talked out of it by t'wiiiife!

gingerninja · 10/12/2008 14:43

I likes it. Good for you

MadamAnt · 10/12/2008 14:59

OK, what about Edward > Eddie or Henry > Harry or Charlotte --> Lottie etc?

Nancy66 · 10/12/2008 15:03

completely different! it's really strange that you can't see it....

MadamAnt · 10/12/2008 15:10

Yes it is very strange! Perhaps you're not explaining it well

Do you think the OP should always call her daughter by her full name? And if not, what pet name for Wednesday would you regard as acceptable?

littlelyn · 10/12/2008 15:15

today - (pet name for Wednesday)

pania · 10/12/2008 15:30

Or Hump Day

Actually I like it, although people will probably always ask her if she was born on a Wednesday.

PuppyMonkeyNuts · 10/12/2008 15:48

NowIcan spell, when you said earlier: "I think the only day that doesn't work as a name is Saturday. JMO" do you really mean that?

Thursday a good name? And Friday?

ALovelySongbirdInaPearTree · 10/12/2008 15:48

i like it, my dd was born on wednesday.
