Just wanted to say, and she wasn't born on a Wednesday!

I like you reasons for choosing the name. Amazing how people can view a character so differently too. I have a very different image of W. Addams to you. However, my vision is totally irrelevant
Was not that impressed when first read your choice, but really like the fact you have very clear reasons for choosing a name other than just "liking it a bit". Makes all the difference in the world. My kids ask over and over for me to tell them the story of how we chose their names and why. It means a lot to a child to "know" their name, almost like a life affirmation (not sure if that is the best way of explaining it, but hope you know what I mean!) We deliberately chose middle names from family history too and they love to hear all about these (almost) distant past relatives, get the old photos out and talk about why they are special to us etc etc Last year I gave each of my girls a locket with a photo of them and a photo of their namesake in too. Not sure what your daughter would think if you did a similar thing for her though

WinkyWinkola · 10/12/2008 09:21

I like the name.

belgo · 10/12/2008 09:23

I can't comment, my ds's name has appeared twice on the 'baby names that make you laugh' thread.

WinkyWinkola · 10/12/2008 09:24

After all, the names given to the days of the week orginate from Greek and Roman or Norse names.

Wednesday Mercury's-day Mercury (Hermes): god of commerce; Messenger of the gods; Trickster god; son of Zeus/Maia

Or Woden's-day Woden/Wotan (Odin): Father and ruler of the gods and mortals; god of war, learning, poetry and the dead

Love your locket idea, Lemontart.

Isn't Wednesday's child "full of woe" according to the rhyme?

Jux · 10/12/2008 10:21

We toyed with the idea of calling dd Wednesday because of the Addams family, but realised a lot of people wouldn't get it - MIL especially. Anyway, when I saw her she was obviously a Thursday

Wednesday's a great name (apart from the full of woe bit of course).

belgo · 10/12/2008 10:30

thanks Lockets, so do I, although my parents nearly collapsed with shock when I told their new grandson's name!

randomxmas · 10/12/2008 10:31

What's his name Belgo?

belgo · 10/12/2008 10:33

I'll tell you if you promise not to laugh!

randomxmas · 10/12/2008 10:34

tenacity - will you shorten it to wendy?

randomxmas · 10/12/2008 10:34

Not going to laugh Belgo!

belgo · 10/12/2008 10:35

Wolf. Fairly well known and acceptable in Belgium where we live.

randomxmas · 10/12/2008 10:39

It's a fabulous name Belgo - strong & solid with an air of mystery. If someone said their name was Wolf you'd want to know all about them as it's interesting. It reminds me of the exploraer called Bear - what a great name as well. (Hope you enjoyed St. Nicolas)

belgo · 10/12/2008 10:41

Saint Nicholas was great fun for the children, thank you

StephanieByng · 10/12/2008 11:29

If named after my labour my ds would be ThursdayFridaySaturdayCrashCaesareanUnderGeneralAnaesthetic...Has a nice ring to it, I think

I like the name Wednesday. Stylish.

WalkinginWaynettaWonderland · 10/12/2008 11:34

Actually based on a typical conversation with my DS2:

What's your name "2"
How old are you "DS2"

I can imaging conversations with your DD when she's 2

  • What's your name? Wednesday
  • No, not what day is it, what's your name? Wednesday

etc

MadamAnt · 10/12/2008 12:10

Wednesday and Wolf are lovely names. Good on you both for being bold enough to use the names you love.

Nancy66 · 10/12/2008 12:41

How do you get Daisy from Wednesday - it does suggest that you ARE a bit embarrassed about it.

storkycake · 10/12/2008 12:53

I know a Tuesday

I don't know why, but I do rather like it.

Wolf is a fabulous name btw

CharCharGaboriaInExcelsisDeo · 10/12/2008 12:56

I like it for the reasons you've chosen, it's nice for names to have an origin I'm sure many on here would hate DD's name but I love it so it matters not!

ThomcatIsForLifeNotJustForXmas · 10/12/2008 12:57

Good for you.

But if hr name is Wednesday, and you love it, why are you calling her Daisy for short?

Boco · 10/12/2008 13:20

Belgo it's a fabulous name. I tried to make franny call her ds Wolfie, but she refused

MadamAnt · 10/12/2008 13:22

Nancy: Wednesday --> Daisy

Quite a straightforward abbreviation, I thought.
