Baby names

Find baby name inspiration and advice on the Mumsnet Baby Names forum.

I give-up, after 9 months and hundreds of these threads, we settled on a name only for a close friend to call her baby the same thing.

She announced it yesterday.
The name was Nina.
My DD2 is due in 2 days. We have no names, it took ages to settle on Nina, and now I am so bored with name hunting.

Someone just tell me what to name her. Pretty please?

It should be classic but not boring and I tend to like short names.

Thanks EightiesChick.
The name you love is DD1's name so although I agree with you I can't use it again .

Clare. Nobody's called Clare any more and I think it's lovely.

skidoodle · 28/11/2008 21:38

Beatrice/x?

What does your DH go for in a name? Is he into short classic names too or does he have more particular requirements?

Does he suggest or just criticise the names you come up with? (my DH's speciality, although he did come up with our eventual choice)

RipMacWinkle · 28/11/2008 21:40

What about Clara? Too close to DD1? Just not your cuppa?

skidoodle · 28/11/2008 21:41

Biblical good or bad?

Rachel?
Rebecca?

Clara is lovely but is the name of another school friend's DD.

I love Biblical names but Ruth and Esther (my favs) are taken by family members.

DH likes Rachael alot. And Felicity. I am not 100% sure about either of those (but not 100% against them either).

Clare.

artichokes · 28/11/2008 21:46

Lol Seeker. I didn't mean to ignore you. Clare is nice but I am afraid it just does not do it for me .

Esme?

skidoodle · 28/11/2008 21:48

Oooooh Felicity, intriguing.

Even though it's very different from your DD1s name, they would not be a bad match.

Would you want to shorten it? If so, what to?

RipMacWinkle · 28/11/2008 21:50

Dana

Verity

Mara

Am just being random now

skidoodle · 28/11/2008 21:50

Esme is nice, but I think the Englisher Ismay is nicer.

One of the ladies on my postnatal board has a daughter called Ismay and I think it's lovely.

misdee · 28/11/2008 21:50

Nicole

not enought Nicoles in the world imo.

or Dixie's!

skidoodle · 28/11/2008 21:52

Given the OP's DD1's name I think Nicole has to be out of the running

misdee · 28/11/2008 21:54

whats her dd1 name?

artichokes · 28/11/2008 21:54

Oooh. Ismay. I am off to google that one.

Dh says no way to Ismay - something to do with some famous politician called Ismay who DH does not admire.

Sarah. biblical short goes with dd1 name and is underused imo.

misdee · 28/11/2008 22:00

Sarah is a wonderful name

artichokes · 28/11/2008 22:01

Sarah is lovely.
But its SiL's name.
See why it took us 9 months to come up with 1 good name that works for us????
