Jacklyn or Jacquelyn?

I love the way that Americans pronounce the name Jacqueline and am certain that I want DD’s name to be pronounced like that. In the UK, ‘Jacqueline’ is not going to receive the pronunciation that I’m intending. What do you think of Jacklyn or Jacquelyn? DH likes the first spelling better, and I prefer the second. I’m typically not keen on alternate spellings, but I see these as entirely separate names with different pronunciations so don’t think it quite counts as that.

Jacquelyn should be fine and get you your intended pronunciation. It should be obvious to everyone that -lyn is pronounced as lin and not leen. There’s not a person that would pronounce Caitlyn as cait-leen (for example).

Then I think Jaclyn is your best bet. Much better than Jacklyn! The k looks strange and superfluous. Jaclyn is a pretty name

I’m a Jacqueline, though I’m only ever called Jackie by friends and family. My friend at school was Jaclyn, pronounced ‘lyn’ where as my version was ‘’leen’.

I agree with @Restcoz Jacquelyn should get you the pronunciation and I think a pretty spelling.

I like the Jacklyn spelling. I’d hazard a guess that I’m in the minority.

Out of all the options on this thread I like Jaclyn the most.
If you want to make sure it's pronounced as Jack-Lynn then you could keep it hyphenated like that?

For Gods sake why? Ive spent half my life asking people with this name how they spell it. Think of the mistakes on every document your daughter will ever have to manage.

If it’s spelt Jacqueline then it’s going to be pronounced jack-uh-leen, as that is the most common pronunciation in the UK. The OP seems to want it to be pronounced either jack-uh-lin or jack-lin, so it doesn’t make much sense to use the Jacqueline spelling.

Have you ever heard of a Jaqueline in the UK being pronouced with a SH noise at the start? I certainly haven't!

I don’t think the British pronunciation is Jack-a-lean, I’m British and I’ve never heard it pronounced that way. We say Jack-a-Lin.

Maybe it varies regionally then, but in Scotland it is always Jack-a-leen. It sounds like that is the same wherever OP is otherwise why would she be raising the question?

A name is only ever as ‘chavvy’ or as ‘posh’ as the person who is called it. You could be called Jayden or Nevaeh (or have a child called that), and people will overlook the name and not give it a second thought/notice if you’re upper class.

I know a Jaclyn. I think that is the correct spelling.

Jacqueline is pronounced Jacklynn here in East Scotland. Please don’t set her up for a lifetime of having to spell her name. The phonetic spellings look a bit dim. I remember seeing Jorja once and cringed so much.
