Jacklyn or Jacquelyn?

I love the way that Americans pronounce the name Jacqueline and am certain that I want DD’s name to be pronounced like that. In the UK, ‘Jacqueline’ is not going to receive the pronunciation that I’m intending. What do you think of Jacklyn or Jacquelyn? DH likes the first spelling better, and I prefer the second. I’m typically not keen on alternate spellings, but I see these as entirely separate names with different pronunciations so don’t think it quite counts as that.

I am not being horrid so please don’t take it that way, but in what way would Jacqueline not get the pronunciation you’re intending? That is the standard way of spelling the name in the UK. What is the US pronunciation which you’re wanting? Just keen to understand the difference, as I’d pronounce all three the same way.

I had an auntie Jacqueline, but she was always ‘Auntie Jackie’ to me (and to everyone else I think). So it may be worth considering whether you like th various contractions / nicknames associated with the name.

I’ve never heard of a ‘Javk-a-Owen’. That would sound odd!

Jacqueline is the classic spelling. I am not sure how you expect people to pronounce the name differently by giving it yewneek spelling? I don’t think it will work.

Neither. They both look like you can’t spell.

So you want jack- a-lin not jack-a-leen.

Ah, you’ve edited your post. I see, and yes there is a difference but would the UK public at large be mindful enough to recognise and pronounce the name differently? Interesting one. Of course you could be very clear to nursery staff, primary school teachers etc, and of course she would have her own voice and be able to correct anyone who pronounced it incorrectly.

Just to add I love both pronunciations I just think it will get annoying correcting people

Honestly I'd pronounce those differently so depends what you're after.

Jack-lin vs Jack-u-lin

Jaclyn is a real name. One of Charlie’s Angels is a Jaclyn. According to Wikipedia there’s plenty of them so it’s quite well known 😊

I prefer the look of Jaclyn, as in Smith, one of Charlie’s Angels, although she changed the spelling from her birth name.

She will be Jackie/Jack before you know it, however you spell it.

Jaclyn if you must, but she’ll end up as Jackie anyway I think.

@AImportantMermaid Has a good suggestion. Jaclyn seems obvious in pronunciation without looking like a misspelling.

I think the trouble with unique spellings is that people will guess, “oh it’s a unique spelling of Jacqueline,” and pronounce it the way you don’t like.

Both dreadful. She’ll be spelling them out forever. FGS give her the right spelling and if people don’t say it right someone can correct them. If they care.

Yes, always seen in this way, but they're always called Jackie-my auntie said it was a magazine. I don't think I've ever come across anyone using the full name, but I've seen different spellings for Jacqui/Jacky etc. Usually Jackie.

The first one makes me think of the golfer Tony Jacklin and so I'd think OP had poorly contrived a name to fit a (somewhat niche) golfing fan parent.

People will not be reading the name whenever they say it though - so you might as well just use Jacqueline in my opinion. That’s how most people will assume it is spelt.
If you’re still desperate to try and avoid the “uh” sound in between Jack and Lin then Jaclyn is a better spelling than Jacklin.
I’ve never heard anyone pronounce it Jack-uh-leen btw so if that’s what you’re worried about you can relax.
