Would Maximus Decimus Meridius be too much for a baby name?

My DH is a huge Ridley Scott fan. He wants to call our son Maximus Decimus Meridius.
I’m not so sure. I’m worried he might get bullied?

Hmmm . . . I would be very concerned about the initials. MDM stands for Mobile Device Management. And, if your surname begins with A, the initials would be even more problematic

Are you really sure these are the initials you want for your son?

Or Warburton.

Warbutonius Hoviticus Kingsmillius… has a nice ring to it.

Husband to a toasted teacake, father to a currant bun.

It isn't just a baby that you're naming - it's a name for him in this whole life, OR the next.

Whenever I think about packing in MN, I see a post like this Smile

YourWinter · 30/05/2026 21:05

Well he’s a twat. If this is serious, and I doubt it is, it would be unbelievably cruel. But I expect you know that.

Only if you're also prepared for Jeff... https://www.facebook.com/share/r/18tKginAN7/?mibextid=wwXIfr

If I remember my Latin correctly the whole thing means the tenth largest in the middle. May have missed construed but maximus is largest decimus is tenth and meridius is middle.

Frankly it is utterly daft.

I recall telling us that Sextus meant that that was the 6th son.

I seem to recall that all the girls had to have the father's name, but with an 'a' at the end - Cornelia was the daughter of Cornelius? So if Maximus had a daughter, she'd have to be Maxima?

A lot of names were also standard words as well. I was giving the word meanings. Yes it was quite usual to give a feminine version to girls of male relatives. Not sure how expected or formulaic it was.

KnitWitsAnonymous · 30/05/2026 21:19

@Notmyreality I'm a little concerned about your DH choosing names because he is a Ridley Scott fan

Are you aware the main character in RS's newest film is called Hig?

Any son would be blessed to be given such a magnificent name as that. I'm sure his mother would be so proud too.

Only if he has a brother called Jeff...

BarbarianBabs · 30/05/2026 21:26

Especially don’t do it if your last name starts with the letter A.
the initials would be MDMA 🧐

Bit too common these days. He'll be one of three or four in his year.

Have you considered making it a bit more unique, such as Maksymus Dessimuce Mérhydious?

Brilliant!

Don't do it. There are 4 of these in my DDs primary one class already. My son is one of 3 Spartacus's (Spartici?) and he hates it.

WTF
