Would Maximus Decimus Meridius be too much for a baby name?

My DH is a huge Ridley Scott fan. He wants to call our son Maximus Decimus Meridius.
I’m not so sure. I’m worried he might get bullied?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I was going to post the same. If it is twins, what about Maximus and Sparticus?

Maximus would never admit that he was actually himself, and not his brother, though.

How about Keith? That has a very similar vibe, but isn't nearly as ubiquitous.

Apileofballyhoo · 30/05/2026 20:38

Have you considered Balonzeus?

user9764325677 · 30/05/2026 20:46

Yes

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 30/05/2026 20:47

😂 Pull the other one @Notmyreality 😆

Needmorelego · 30/05/2026 20:47

Awesome name.
Go on.....do it.

OrdinaryGirl · 30/05/2026 20:47

This thread is a JOY

And if we have a girl he is thinking Thelma (or Louise).

Why not Ripley?

Nah, 'Keith' is a bit of a mouthful 😝

StabiaGirl · 30/05/2026 20:49

Ha! Here's AI's answer :

Yes, it is entirely too much for a human baby—unless you plan to raise him to be the commander of the Armies of the North.

EddiesTies · 30/05/2026 20:20

What about Hovis?

Or Warburton.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Actually spat out my Pepsi max at that - and I NEVER waste Pepsi with ease.

Maximus - fine.

Hopefully you’re joking about the rest but considering the number of Loki’s i know I fear not.

Don't do it. There are 4 of these in my DDs primary one class already. My son is one of 3 Spartacus's (Spartici?) and he hates it.

I am Spartacus.

dontletmedownbruce · 30/05/2026 20:51

Unless you are married to Jacob Rees-Mogg, then yes. A hard yes.

ThaneOfGlamis · 30/05/2026 20:51

I don't see see anything wrong with Maximus. It's a perfectly normal name surely? The rest is a bit lengthy, but no one actually mentions their middle names day to day.

mahiki · 30/05/2026 20:52

Ohcrap082024 · 30/05/2026 20:32

Or Hannibal?

I knew a Hannibal.

Why not Ripley?

Only just realised the slightly narcissistic weirdness of having his most heroic female character having basically the same name as him.

IWFH · 30/05/2026 20:25

I understand that Biggus Dickus is making a comeback

😆

Oh yeah, LOL.

WearyAuldWumman · 30/05/2026 20:53

Go for it.

It'll make all his schoolteachers very happy.

It’s not likely to be a job taken by AI so may be a good plan.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 30/05/2026 20:58

I think it's understated and due a revival. He could become anything from a binman to the leader of Reform (or both) and not stand out for his name - he'll fit in anywhere.

HugoThatway · 30/05/2026 20:59

It will probably mean he never gets married or has a son.

Blade Runner might be better.

MyThreeWords · 30/05/2026 20:59

If you feel Maximus might be too much, you could always shave it down to Minimus.

And Decimus could be halved to Quintus

Greensinkingrings · 30/05/2026 20:59

sesquipedalian · 30/05/2026 20:28

OP, is this baby to be the tenth of your children? Because that’s what Decimus means - the tenth. Do you get any say in the naming if your future DC? I’d be exercising my power of veto.

If I remember my Latin correctly the whole thing means the tenth largest in the middle. May have missed construed but maximus is largest decimus is tenth and meridius is middle.

Frankly it is utterly daft.
