We are thinking of naming our daughter "Renie"

How would you pronounce it if you read it?

Ren-ee
Ree-nee
Ruh-nah

Thanks

I’d say Ree-nee

Tichter · 12/05/2026 08:41

Have you considered Gaviscon?

XMissPlacedX · 12/05/2026 08:42

Ren-ee

Ree-nee.
I know an 82 year old Renie, short for Irene.

ItsPickleRick · 12/05/2026 08:42

Ree-nee

Rennie, same as the indigestion tablets.

SausageRoll2020 · 12/05/2026 08:43

I'd probably pronounce it like Rennie, the digestion tablet.

AgnesMcDoo · 12/05/2026 08:44

Like the indigestion tablets

Lovely!

ApolloandDaphne · 12/05/2026 08:44

Probably like Rennie - as in Ren-ay. Mostly because Rennie is a common Scottish surname and i would just go with that pronunciation unless i was told otherwise.

Not2identifying · 12/05/2026 08:44

Ree-nee

fairmaidofutopia · 12/05/2026 08:44

Why ? Why make it hard? If you want her name pronounced in a certain way then make it evident in the spelling …

INeedaDietcoke · 12/05/2026 08:45

Ree-nee like Aladdin's genie.

PurpleNightingale · 12/05/2026 08:45

Rennie like the tablets.

Stoicandhappy · 12/05/2026 08:45

Gaviscon

Beautifulday01 · 12/05/2026 08:46

I’d say Ree-nee as would assume you didn’t want her to be called Rennie like the tablets.

rainbowstardrops · 12/05/2026 08:47

Ree nee

Lol

RoseField1 · 12/05/2026 08:49

Don't do that. If you insist on the name spell it with double E at least so it makes logical sense. Reenie. It's a terrible name though.

kscarpetta · 12/05/2026 08:50

Probably Rennie but maybe Reenee if it was short for Irenie?

dontmalbeconme · 12/05/2026 08:52

Ren-ie, like the indigestion tablets. But, I might pause and wonder wht anyone would do that to their child, and then think it was a 'younique' way to spell Renée, and pronounce it accordingly. All in all, I'd be a little confused at this choice of name/spelling.

andana · 12/05/2026 08:52

Always thought it was Ree-nee as it’s a nickname for Irene. We have a baby Renie in our family named after her granny Irene.

This. The spelling doesn’t make it clear whether it’s ‘Renny’ to rhyme with Benny or Reenee to rhyme with Heaney, or Renée.

Choose a spelling that makes it clear.

InstantlyBella · 12/05/2026 08:53

Ren-aye
