Iris, Daphne, Daisy or Hazel

Me again.

I am very nearly due with my first girl. I would really like a nature name and was leaning towards Daisy but DH finds it too twee and simple. He doesn't think it's interesting enough but he would go with it if I really want it.
Iris and Hazel are new contenders. Iris makes me think of rainbows and beautiful flowers whereas Hazel gives me autumny brown vibes. So I'm perhaps leaning more towards Iris as it's spring. I quite like Rissy as an affectionate name.
I like that Hazel has links to Irish mythology, as my son's have Irish names, so it's also a strong contender (someone mentioned this on another thread).
Daphne is a long term favourite but it's not sticking somehow.

Help me decide please!

I like Daphne or Hazel the best.

Overtheatlantic · 06/05/2026 05:11

Iris is the only one I like. Hazel is awful and Daisy sounds like a nickname. Daphne is okay too.

xyz75 · 06/05/2026 05:40

I like Daisy best. I don't get the love for Daphne.

HoraceCope · 06/05/2026 05:50

if you are not loving daphne, or daisy
i like iris

CeciliaMars · 06/05/2026 06:06

I have a Daisy! I think it’s beautiful, fresh and simple. I also love Iris. How about Marigold, nickname Goldie!?

ShetlandishMum · 06/05/2026 06:07

Daisy!

lupido · 06/05/2026 06:24

Daisy

LivingTheDreamish · 06/05/2026 07:03

Wait until you meet her! They are all lovely names.

PygmyOwl · 06/05/2026 07:05

Iris

TheFarriersDaughter · 06/05/2026 07:25

Iris
Daphne
Margaret (with Daisy as one optional diminutive amongst several)

are all beautiful and strong.

Hazel is the outlier - plain and stolid. It lacks glamour!

AnnikaA · 06/05/2026 07:36

Daisy is very feminine and sweet, I think. I know a kick-ass little Daisy who likes climbing trees and fart jokes - she goes by “Daze” already at age 9!

If you like the inevitable nn “Daze” then Hazel might be a good choice (nn “Haze”).

Hazel - I like - it gives me Brambly Hedge vibes.

Iris is an old lady in a stale-smelling council flat.

Daphne I’m neutral, but again seems quite a saccharine, floppy sort of name. I think Daphnes suffers from having a nice strong consonant at the start, but then fizzles out in a “fff/nnn”

We considered this but somehow it feels a bit too 'out there'. I can imagine I introducing any of the others but not Marigold for some reason.
Daisy is beautiful. If it was just me I think I would have stuck at Daisy. Do you find it very popular?

Newsenmum · 06/05/2026 07:54

Hazel is quite popular at the moment. I think have Iris and Daisey as your main two contenders and then see when she’s born.

sunflowerdaisies · 06/05/2026 07:55

Daisy is really lovely, my favourite by a mile. Iris and Hazel are fine. Daphne I do not like.

PancakeCloud · 06/05/2026 08:53

I’m with your husband on Daisy, but your other three options sound lovely to me

BleedinglyObvious · 06/05/2026 10:09

Rissy is awful.

Rissy is awful.

Thanks for your input.

Of the 4, Iris!

BleedinglyObvious · 06/05/2026 10:14

You're welcome. I like all the names except Rissy.

I'd be hard pushed to choose but I think Iris is the nicest and it's a beautiful flower.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 06/05/2026 10:22

Iris
Daisy is not good as an adult name IMO
Daphne is too of the moment and may date (again)
Hazel is a bit plain

wobblychristmastree · 06/05/2026 10:25

i love them all except Daisy, too twee I think

Dazedandconfus · 06/05/2026 10:29

I actually really like both Iris and Hazel. Maybe wait until she is born and see which one feels right? I'm not sure Iris would need to be shortened to Rissy but if you like it then why not?

In terms of nature names, I also like the names Violet and also Fern, but appreciate they are not to everyone's taste.

DramaAlpaca · 06/05/2026 10:43

Nice names.

I'd pick Iris, with Hazel as the middle name - Iris Hazel.

CatCaretaker · 06/05/2026 10:45

Hazel is lovely

Nice names.

I'd pick Iris, with Hazel as the middle name - Iris Hazel.

It sounds like a description of eye colour.

Hazel does sound nice and isn't floral. Wouldn't be good if the surname is Atkins. Hazel .
