Iris, Daphne, Daisy or Hazel

Me again.

I am very nearly due with my first girl. I would really like a nature name and was leaning towards Daisy but DH finds it too twee and simple. He doesn't think it's interesting enough but he would go with it if I really want it.
Iris and Hazel are new contenders. Iris makes me think of rainbows and beautiful flowers whereas Hazel gives me autumny brown vibes. So I'm perhaps leaning more towards Iris as it's spring. I quite like Rissy as an affectionate name.
I like that Hazel has links to Irish mythology, as my son's have Irish names, so it's also a strong contender (someone mentioned this on another thread).
Daphne is a long term favourite but it's not sticking somehow.

Help me decide please!

I actually really like both Iris and Hazel. Maybe wait until she is born and see which one feels right? I'm not sure Iris would need to be shortened to Rissy but if you like it then why not?

In terms of nature names, I also like the names Violet and also Fern, but appreciate they are not to everyone's taste.

I'm tempted to wait and see what she looks like. But I'd really like to have it narrowed down to two I think.
With my second son, we weren't sure and I ended up rushing into a name and I regretted it for a long time.

My children all look very different. If she is brown haired and eyed I'd be more tempted by Hazel but I struggle to imagine a Hazel on a blonde blue eyed baby. I know thats probably silly to some, but names really evoke strong imagery for me. I think Daisy and Daphne work well with any colouring.

Also I do like Violet, not so keen on Fern. I think Iris is slightly nicer than Violet though.

Most babies don't have much hair at 6 weeks.

Tryagain26 · 06/05/2026 11:51

I love Iris.
I don't know why but I'm not keen on Hazel it's a
perfectly accept name though as is Daisy although i find it harder to imagine a grown up Daisy
I don't like Daphne at all it just makes me think of an older dull woman!

RedRosie · 06/05/2026 11:52

I love Hazel. I met someone recently with two little girls, Hazel and Rowan. Lovely.

AnnaQuayRules · 06/05/2026 11:54

I love the name Iris.

I agree that Daisy is quite twee and a bit overused.

HopefulYankee · 06/05/2026 11:54

I love Iris, it’s a beautiful name! It’s really elegant.

ImImmortalNowBabyDoll · 06/05/2026 12:16

My daughter's best friend is called Hazel. She's a very gentle, nature loving girl and Hazel suits her perfectly. I like Daphne and Iris too, but I find Daisy a bit twee.

LoudPlumDog · 06/05/2026 12:29

Hazel

Xmasallergies · 06/05/2026 16:51

I think Daisy is probably the prettiest, and Iris sounds quite cool. I don’t know why I don’t like Daphne but I know lots of people do! I think it’s the Daff sound.

Thefinalcountup · 06/05/2026 17:18

Does Iris sound quite serious for a baby? I know she won't be a baby forever but it's hard to make it feel cute. Daisy feels so warm and cute for a baby.

I think they're all really nice names! Which goes better with your surname/middle name?

We have a one syllable surname that goes well with all the names. There will be two middle names, one is undecided and one is Mary (family name).

Iris is gorgeous and is my favourite on your list (although definitely not 'Rissy', that's really not a nice sound).

Hazel would be my next choice.

Daisy is ok, but has never been a favourite of mine (for humans, I think it's a great name for a dog). It's cute on a young child, but a bit infantile.

Daphne isn't for me at all.

MummySleepDeprived · 06/05/2026 17:53

Iris is a goddess who rides on rainbows

ArtemisNutella · 06/05/2026 18:06

I love Iris and Daphne from your choices. Daisy and Hazel are nice enough but I love the first two.

What about Fiadh or Roisin?

BleedinglyObvious · 06/05/2026 18:07

@Thefinalcountup , she'll only be a baby for a short time. She doesn't need a baby name.

CBAwithallthethings · 06/05/2026 18:10

I’ve always liked the name Hazel

They are all lovely names. My personal preference would be Daphne or Hazel.

You are naming a person though, not a baby, I don’t really get the need for a “cute” baby name. She will have this name forever. Any of your list would be a lovely name, pick the one you like best, don’t pick a name because it’s “cute for a baby!”

followtheswallow · 06/05/2026 18:54

I like all of them actually. Hazel can sound awful in some accents. Iris is probably my favourite.

helpmelosemybigbelly · 06/05/2026 19:18

Daisy

SquigglePigs · 06/05/2026 19:21

Hazel is my favourite. I know a 3 yr old Hazel and it's perfect for her!

Daisy is lovely too.

Iris is ok but I really don't like Daphne (sorry).

Ivy is nice and seems in keeping with your tastes.

Random out there suggestion but it jumped to mind - Carys.

RegalDiamondMonster · 06/05/2026 19:26

I still like Marianne and Fiadh;)

I personally wouldn't choose Daisy if your husband really can't get on board. Hazel is quite pretty. I'm not a fan of the 'eye' sound but the vibe of Iris is nice. (Totally irrelevant, but I knew an Icelandic Iris who pronounced it Ear-ris which I liked.)

Maybe Hazel Mary?

LilyLemonade · 06/05/2026 19:33

These are lovely names. I like Daphne best. I know what your husband means about Daisy being twee but I think it's become common enough not to have that connotation.

What about Laurel (same meaning as Daphne)?

Other nature-related names could be
Brooke
Calla
Sorrel
Linnet
Linden
Melissa
