Yay or nay. Asking for a friend. Passé 1930s or due for a revival?

For a dog, lovely. Not for a human child.

Pingypongy · 11/02/2026 13:25

As in the bearskins worn at the changing of the guard? it’s a no from me.

MakeYourOwnSunshine · 11/02/2026 13:26

Come on now. 😂

Hosoan · 11/02/2026 13:26

Eh? Just no.

Contrarymary30 · 11/02/2026 13:27

My friends cat was called Busby . It doesn't sound like a name for a human to me but each to there own .

Wakemeupinapril · 11/02/2026 13:27

Of course if you went the dc ridiculed it's entire life.

Glitterbiscuits · 11/02/2026 13:27

I feel so old!
Big yellow bird advertising BT!

shellyleppard · 11/02/2026 13:27

I immediately thought of the BT advert from the 1980's.....🤣🤣

BrownBagCrisps · 11/02/2026 13:27

Mate. That’s your hormones talking.

Needmorelego · 11/02/2026 13:32

Man U fans?

FavouriteBlueMug · 11/02/2026 13:39

As long as the child isn’t likely to live in Glasgow (Busby is a small town on the south side)

AgentPidge · 11/02/2026 13:40

Ha ha this is ridiculous. No.

Remember Mumsnet only has an approved list of about 20 names.

Short, easy to spell and pronounce, cute nickname opportunities.

It’s sufficiently unusual people will probably never have met one or heard of it, which can be a challenge for the owner.

No one would bat an eyelid at this in my area.

Puttingonabraveface247 · 11/02/2026 13:43

What's your opinion on it OP?
Just curious.

Really? Where on earth do you live?

ACatAsleepInYourHat · 11/02/2026 13:55

Yeah, why not. Give him the middle name Berkeley as well for that full 1930s razzamatazz.

London

Allseeingallknowing · 11/02/2026 13:59

Who’d name a baby after a guardsman’s fur helmet. The poor child would be subjected to ridicule!

Idontcareno · 11/02/2026 14:00

Dreadful. Why would you do that to your child. I don't even think it's a good name for a pet.

KilkennyCats · 11/02/2026 14:00

MidnightPatrol · 11/02/2026 13:56

London

As do I. If you imagine a Busby wouldn’t be ridiculed in London, go ahead and use it for your own child. You’ll find out…

purplecorkheart · 11/02/2026 14:01

For a rabbit maybe. Nor for a child.
