Someone who loved Judge Dread was going to call child Dread. Thankfully was persuaded otherwise.

Someone was asking about Busby on here the other day, I thought that was pretty bad. There are a couple of other infamous ones on here but I can't remember them off the top of my head.

There was a fantastic ps1 game called bubsy 3d🤣🥴

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 12/02/2026 18:26

I know someone who called their son Boy.

I didn't think anything could be worse than calling a child Sonny, but here we have it.

Jackiepumpkinhead · 12/02/2026 18:33

The worst I ever heard was Lucifer.

DiscoDown18 · 12/02/2026 18:33

Kreed, yes with a 'K'. Also I know someone with a grandson called Dude.

Only If it’s Buzby like the British telecom bird!

TorroFerney · 12/02/2026 18:38

Not a terrible name but a depressing conversation about names at work quite a few years ago, colleague tells me that woman in our team has had a baby. I enquired after the name , Harper. Oh that’s nice, like the author , no like Victoria Beckhams child.

Snozby · 12/02/2026 18:39

Dinasti. She has to keep telling people it's not pronounced Die Nasty (as if Dynasty wasn't bad enough).

I met a knearly though work , named as she was nearly a boy.

the family was very well known to social services.

Upstream some body mentioned the Welsh name Sion in reference to the Shaun/Sean comment.

Although it is also a 'John' name, it's pronounced 'Shon', not 'Shaun'. Close, but no cigar.

Yukono · 12/02/2026 18:44

Someone mentioned Nazi already.

I know a few men called Ignazi. Known as Nazi. Born after WW2.

No children with that name though.

That's crazy - and my daughter, Bungalow, agrees with me!

😂X

Beautiful little blonde boy in the supermarket was being shouted at, his name was Millwall 😳

NoArmaniNoPunani · 12/02/2026 18:49

My mother wanted to call me Orianna after a character in a book she read while pregnant. Thank goodness my father was more practical. It sounds like something you would name a cruise ship!

Lovely name!

ZiggyZowie · 12/02/2026 18:52

I was nearly called Primrose because someone brought my mum primroses when I was born

My sister was nearly called Poppy as she was born on 11 November

Neither happened ,although I like Poppy however Primrose wouldn't have suited me.

HK04 · 12/02/2026 18:55

Needmorelego · 12/02/2026 12:26

I think that sounds beautiful 🤷

There was a liner called Oriana and later a cruise ship 🚢… still quite like it.

A colour + day of week for name was worst I heard. Not even born on that day… 🙈…

Well, I heard of a child whose parents had named him Mason but insisted it was spelt with an ‘i’ after the a - anyone who knew any French at all, blinked a bit.

Not that unusual. Unfortunately.

My mum was due on Valentine's Day so her parents planned to call her Valentina! I think that would have been pretty bad. Luckily she was late.

My friend was born on Valetine's day and he's called Valentine. It wasn't a completely unheard name in Ireland at the time.

I know it's a far from uncommon name in Africa and African heritage communities, but I always think it's very strange giving your child the name Favourite unless you're certain that you won't be having any more children!

I worked in school with a girl there called Peculiar.

Jackiepumpkinhead · 12/02/2026 19:03

SuziQuinto · 12/02/2026 18:34

That's just cruel.

The mum had absolutely no idea, just heard it one day and thought it was nice!

I met one the other week. Unfortunately I think his middle name was a colour! 🙄
