I knew a woman who wanted to call her baby daughter Chlamydia .
Normally i wouldn't comment on someones name choice,but i broke the habit of a lifetime and said Do you realise Chlamydia is the name of a sexually aquired infection in English (she lived in the uk but English wasn't her first language)
She said she thought i was mistaken and it was the name of a beautiful flower.
Fortunatly she changed her mind and decided on Violet.

Such a pity the Beckham child conceived in Brooklyn was not conceived in Peckham.

One of my sons went to primary with a child named Josh. His parents spelled in Xjosh. At least twice in a year I heard the mum say "the X is silent" to another parent. What in the world.....

If a name sounds funny or weird I usually don't mind it in a way.
Names like Malcolm, Barry, Derek, Tracy, Susan seem worse just because they're so bland.

I used to encounter a family where the children were called Harley and Mercedes. They had a third and called him Bentley, though we'd all had discussions about whether he'd be called Austin or Dodge, or perhaps Riley or Lotus for a girl. It's the sort of stunt people normally pull with cats, no children.

I also knew one poor kid with a 'unique' name whose parents couldn't be relied on to spell it the way that they had decided it should be on her birth certificate.

Yes, I've taught a few girls called Destiny. It's quite a nice name.

Miley Cyrus's real name is Destiny. She was nicknamed Smiley which evolved into Miley.
She changed it legally to Miley as an adult.
I wonder how many babies were named Miley after her - although it wasn't actually her name.

I once taught a boy called Jo-Jo which I thought was a bit silly.

I had a midwife do the same about my dd’s name, she even made the suggestion ‘oh not insert her suggestion then?’ where she’d changed one letter and it became a similar sounding name, e.g. I said dd is called Milly, midwife said with a disgusted face ‘oh not Molly then?!’ and just laughed hysterically like I was naming my child the most vile name in existence. It was bizarre and really rude! DD’s name is very uncommon and quite old English sounding and popular in the Victorian era, but it’s really not weird at all.
People are very marmite with my youngest son’s name too which is also traditional but rarely heard so people just say it’s weird. I love my kids names, as do they.
