Henry, Samuel or Alexander? (We would use the long name rather than shortening.)

or something else?

thanks

Alexander

geoger · 20/12/2025 13:56

Alexander

or what about Elijah?

namechange272727 · 20/12/2025 13:58

Thanks both - I worry with Alexander that unless we use a shortened name from day 1 (Xander would be the best), he will eventually end up as Alex, even though I would much prefer to call him Alexander than Xander.

Elijah is nice but we know another and so wouldn’t use it.

Think Samuel works best. I teach a Samuel and it's never shortened. It's lovely.

I also think Theo would work really well.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 20/12/2025 14:01

Samuel. Ds had a lovely friend named Samuel & I am therefore biased toward it 😊.

TeenToTwenties · 20/12/2025 14:01

Samuel, Daniel, Isaac

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 20/12/2025 14:01

I'd say Alexander. However I'd advise against it if you don't want it shortened. You can only control that for so long. You can't be telling him at 30 tha t he can't call himself Alex.

slowraindrop · 20/12/2025 14:02

Love Samuel. Jake, Ben and Sam is great when they’re older.

MrsSkylerWhite · 20/12/2025 14:02

Really like Samuel.

BestZebbie · 20/12/2025 14:02

Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Asher, Dan...maybe steer clear of Joseph though.

Mumsntfan1 · 20/12/2025 14:02

I'd go for Samuel. Love the names you have chosen for your older sons.

Ketzele · 20/12/2025 14:02

Samuel. Or Reuben, Noel, Asher.

BowlyLarr · 20/12/2025 14:03

I thought Samuel just based on the thread title, so that definitely gets my vote. Lovely names all of them though.

Blueuggboots · 20/12/2025 14:04

I have an Alexander. As soon as he was old enough to say so, he wanted to be Alex. The only person who didn’t get an eyeroll when they call his Alexander is his Nanna.

FitAt50 · 20/12/2025 14:05

With Jacob and Benjamin you have the whole 'tribes of Israel' theme. Samuel is most biblical but to fit with theme you could go with; Reuben, Simeon, Levi or Joseph.

LuminousDial · 20/12/2025 14:10

In terms of sound - Gabriel seems to me to fit in well with the other 2 names.

We have a Benjamin, Jacob and Samuel ! They all get shortened of course. They are all grown up now but timeless names.

Lampzade · 20/12/2025 14:19

Samuel or isaac

Moreteaandchocolate · 20/12/2025 14:52

I like them all but would choose Henry if you don’t want it shortened

AlloftheTime · 20/12/2025 14:54

Solomon

CherryRipe1 · 20/12/2025 16:13

Asher, Isaac, Noah or Behr

mathanxiety · 20/12/2025 16:24

I'd choose Samuel. Lovely name that goes beautifully with the other OT names, and Sam is a gorgeous abbreviation if one is ever used.

I don't think Alexander fits as well with the other names as it's Greek in origin, and I share your feelings about Alex as an inevitable nickname.

Henry is another non OT name, and the rhyming Ben- and Hen- syllables would put me off.

CharlotteFlax · 20/12/2025 16:29

I instantly thought an H name would look good with these. I don't particularly like the name Henry, but if you do then that's the one I reckon you should go for! (Or Harry or Harvey...)

ForFunGoose · 20/12/2025 16:31

I like Samuel ( Tobias is another option)

I have 3 boys with similar names and they’re only the long version at home. They opted for the shorter version once at school.
