Henry, Samuel or Alexander? (We would use the long name rather than shortening.)

Samuel out of your list.

Daniel was the first suggestion I thought of, followed by Zachary.

JauntyRedShoes · 21/12/2025 06:31

Samuel goes really well with the other names. I do like Reuben and Seth or Saul. So many great names on the list.

JillyGiraffe · 21/12/2025 07:31

Alexander

How about Thomas or Tobias?

AwfullyGood · 21/12/2025 16:37

I don't think Henry works as well as Samuel or Alexander do with your existing names.

I can't really say why exactly but instinctively it sounds wrong.

Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Asher, Dan...maybe steer clear of Joseph though.

I came here to say this and PP beat me to it.
Caleb? Gad? Levi?

awrbc81 · 21/12/2025 17:44

I like them all but Samuel goes with the other names better, although if you don’t want any short versions I would go for Henry as it’s the least likely to be shortened.
My favourite of the 3 is Alexander.

Alexandrine · 21/12/2025 18:39

I like both Alexander and Henry but Samuel was the first one I thought of, without even seeing your list. Stick with the classic Biblical style - Jake, Ben and Sam sound great together.

gogomomo2 · 21/12/2025 18:51

Samuel goes with the other names better. How about Daniel

CherryRipe1 · 21/12/2025 19:59

Joshua, Ezra, Balthazar

MeridaBrave · 21/12/2025 20:07

Asher, Daniel, Raphael, Noah

Thanks both - I worry with Alexander that unless we use a shortened name from day 1 (Xander would be the best), he will eventually end up as Alex, even though I would much prefer to call him Alexander than Xander.

Just keep using the full name. As long as DC wants to, others will follow.

Milliekate38 · 22/12/2025 07:00

how about Caleb ? From your list Samuel

Barleycat · 22/12/2025 07:02

Samuel

My son is Samuel. Now an adult but has always corrected anyone who calls him Sam. His dad still does it but to everyone else he is always Samuel.

itsgettingweird · 22/12/2025 07:09

Samuel.

although before I opened the thread I thought Isaac would go.

pilates · 22/12/2025 07:17

Lovely bunch of names

Ethan?

namechange272727 · 22/12/2025 12:28

Thanks everyone - Samuel a clear leader! Also love Zebulon - had never heard that before - but think it might be the pregnancy hormones 🙈

Daniel, Joseph, Reuben, Simeon, Asher, Levi...

VioletBeatrice · 22/12/2025 14:13

Alexander is an excellent name, but our experience is that shortening is inevitable once he starts school.

Calliopespa · 22/12/2025 22:52

I really like Samuel.

However, I think with those two names Jacob, Benjamin, Isaac sounds even better.

But Jacob, Benjamin and Samuel is also really nice.

What I like about all four of these names is they are what I call "gently" biblical - like Peter or Matthew - so not as directly biblical as Malachi or Moses or Abraham etc. Not that those are bad, but I like the slightly more "mainstream" vibe.

Andthatrightsoon · 22/12/2025 22:55

Joseph, Rueben, Naphtali, Issachar, Dan, Gad, Zebulum, Judah, Asher, Levi or Simeon?

Bungle2168 · 22/12/2025 23:01

Brave choice of names in the current climate.

I came here to say this 😅

shoopshoopdedoo · 22/12/2025 23:18

Alexander is my favourite.

Samuel probably “goes” best with the others - I would presume a Jewish family with sons Jacob, Benjamin and Samuel.
