Maybe wait until she's weaned

ExhaustedAndProbablyDrunk · 31/10/2025 19:19

Isn’t that a type of Spinach?

Sillysoggyspaniel · 31/10/2025 19:19

Strong from the above poster.

But as a name, absolutely not.

NewJobProblem · 31/10/2025 19:19

It’s lovely and not common.

HundredMilesAnHour · 31/10/2025 19:20

I always thought Sorrel was a classic name for a horse? Never occurred to me that someone would consider using it for an actual real life person.

TheLilacStork · 31/10/2025 19:21

I think it’s so pretty

Shmoigel · 31/10/2025 19:21

I once knew a sorrel and she was lovely so I do like the name!

Lindy2 · 31/10/2025 19:22

I quite like it. I'm fond of plant and flower names.

As far as I'm aware it's a recognised but not widely used name.

Well, it is a name, though.
I really like it @RoseApp
I like nature names, especially plant names, like Willow and Rowan and Fern, same kind of soft nature feel for me.

JudgeBread · 31/10/2025 19:25

I'm not keen, it's a plant obviously but the name of the plant is derived from an Old French word for "sour", and that's kind of what it brings to mind for me. I picture someone dour and gloomy.

ChickpeasOnEarth · 31/10/2025 19:27

How would you pronounce it? I know a Sorrel and I assumed it was pronounced with no particular emphasis on either syllable, like "coral", but she always corrects people that it's SoRREL like "hotel".

InsolentAnnie · 31/10/2025 19:28

I like it. Character in a Noel Streatfeild book :)

HugoYorway · 31/10/2025 19:28

I wouldn't feed it to a youngster. It's sour.
It's quite pretty especially in a salad but grows like weeds.

AnAudacityofinlaws · 31/10/2025 19:29

I know a Sorrel - she’s elderly if that’s relevant. I also know a Campion, which is another nice, unusual plant name.

TheJustJoker · 31/10/2025 19:30

Love it.

LolaBumble · 31/10/2025 19:40

Ooh I think it’s pretty and unusual!

arcticpandas · 31/10/2025 19:42

Sounds like squirrel or sorry. Never heard it and find it odd- not a sweet name.

ExquisiteSocialSkills · 31/10/2025 19:44

I know two. It doesn’t sound all that in isolation but once it’s an associated with an actual person it’s really pretty. I think it’s a lovely name.

ifyoulikealotofchocolateonyour · 31/10/2025 19:48

I once knew one and thought it was lovely!

KitchenSinkLlama · 31/10/2025 19:48

I have Sorel walking boots. Different spelling but it isn’t a name I would consider.

PerpetualStudent · 31/10/2025 19:50

I know a Sorrel - very kind and nature-focused person so it has those connotations for me!

TakeMeToAnIgloo · 31/10/2025 19:51

Enid Blyton fan?

APatternGrammar · 31/10/2025 19:52

Great name

ToKittyornottoKitty · 31/10/2025 19:53

Is this a food item? I don’t like it, moaning mertyl, sorry sorrel. Sounds whiney

Overtheatlantic · 31/10/2025 19:53

Makes me think of a pig.
