Thoughts on Sorrel for a girl?

I really like it but sadly it didn’t go with either of our surnames eg imagine being called Sorrel Lerros or Sorrel Sorle (names changed but you get the drift).

It’s strong and beautiful. If you can, go for it.

Spudlover · 31/10/2025 23:29

I think it’s pretty. Uncommon without being weird or try hard.

Moonlightdust · 31/10/2025 23:34

Automatically makes me think of squirrel 🙈

EmiliaRuusuvuori · 31/10/2025 23:35

One of my favourite names, I think it's really pretty.

JillyGiraffe · 01/11/2025 04:05

My first thought was the boots. For that reason I wouldn’t consider it for a child. What do you like about it?

Gruffporcupine · 01/11/2025 04:07

Prefer Laurel

Mothership4two · 01/11/2025 04:14

I have never come across a Sorrel and I think it is a pretty name.

Apparently in folklore it represents good luck, happiness and protection

Maybe wait until she's weaned

Haha

I like it.

I think some Noel Stretford character was a Sorrel

NoraLuka · 01/11/2025 09:02

It’s a horse colour (lightish chestnut) but not sure if anyone aside from horse geeks will know that.

It’s a pretty name, why not?

chunkyBoo · 01/11/2025 09:02

It was on my list, it’s very pretty

HugoYorway · 01/11/2025 09:03

Not a horse geek, but I knew. Bay is also a horse colour.

rainingsnoring · 01/11/2025 11:04

I think it's really pretty. I often like nature-linked names. I also like Laurel, which has a very similar sound.

Yesimmoaningaboutbenefits · 01/11/2025 11:23

Love the name sorrell. Like others have said, it's uncommon but not weird or try-hard.

FuckRealityBringMeABook · 05/11/2025 18:02

Love it. Knew one as a kid, wish I had thought of it.

Mimilamore · 05/11/2025 18:40

It’s lovely ….

setadriftonmemorybliss · 06/11/2025 18:30

Sounds like ‘sorrow’. There are nicer names out there

dontletmedownbruce · 11/11/2025 17:14

“It’s not a name, man, it’s an ‘erb”

MonGrainDeSel · 11/11/2025 17:16

I really like it!

Sprig1 · 11/11/2025 17:57

Lovely. Great name.

BotterMon · 11/11/2025 18:02

I like it. Yes it's a horse colour but mainly in the US and a reddish copper colour, a bit brighter than Chestnut

CurlewKate · 11/11/2025 18:44

I do like Sorrel. But I once played a character with that name in a Noel Coward play, and I got great reviews so I might be biased!

roshi42 · 11/11/2025 19:27

I absolutely love Sorrel / Sorel. It was on my list. I’ve liked it since I saw Noel Coward’s play Hay Fever. The only thing that put me off was the lack of obvious nicknames… wasn’t sure about Sorry / Sorrie.

Mandarinaduck · 11/11/2025 22:46

Lovely name.

Realrobin · 11/11/2025 22:49

It's a sad name. It sounds like sorry and sorrow.

OSTMusTisNT · 11/11/2025 22:50

Tempting fate that kid will have a lisp.
