Don’t like it… sounds like a mix beteeen sorry, sore and horrible! Never met a person with this name either (sorry)

Tempting fate that kid will have a lisp.

This is nuts. Do you think everyone should avoid all names containing the letter S?

villamariavintrapp · 12/11/2025 08:02

It's ok, but does sound like sorrow,

Fluffyholeysocks · 12/11/2025 08:04

I agree with others, it sounds a bit gloomy, I hear sorry, sorrow.

Purplecatshopaholic · 12/11/2025 08:06

I like it. Pretty, unusual.

user1492757084 · 12/11/2025 08:07

It could be shortened to Sorry which is a bit apologetic for a name.

ButtonMushrooms · 12/11/2025 08:09

I love Sorrel

Or Soz. Soz forgot to 'clear quote'. Blush

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 12/11/2025 08:19

Love Sorrel, unusual and pretty without being cutesy

I'm a fan of nature and flower names generally though

LadyAsnowt · 12/11/2025 08:22

I was at school with a Sorrel (back in the 80s, though). I really like it.

Viviennemary · 13/11/2025 10:12

Its very unusual but I do quite like it.

CatchHimDerry · 13/11/2025 10:54

Yes, I would choose it. I love a nature themed name, as well as a less common one

PrincessOfPreschool · 13/11/2025 15:59

ChickpeasOnEarth · 31/10/2025 19:27

How would you pronounce it? I know a Sorrel and I assumed it was pronounced with no particular emphasis on either syllable, like "coral", but she always corrects people that it's SoRREL like "hotel".

Blimey. I really like the name but hate it pronounced like 'hotel'!

I absolutely love Sorrel / Sorel. It was on my list. I’ve liked it since I saw Noel Coward’s play Hay Fever. The only thing that put me off was the lack of obvious nicknames… wasn’t sure about Sorry / Sorrie.

I think Sol is a lovely nickname

HugoYorway · 13/11/2025 16:10

@PrincessOfPreschool , same here. I think Linnet and Juliet are sweet but not when said as Lynette and Juliette.

LadySable · 13/11/2025 16:13

I thought of Sorrel Blackbeak in Sarah J Maas Throne of Glass series (she wrote ACOTAR)

SwallowsandAmazonians · 16/11/2025 12:23

I like it. I know one in her 30s.

For me it's the hibiscus drink from a
Trinidad rather than the salad leaf/herb, which is probably a nicer association.

laughingnow · 16/11/2025 12:26

Such a pretty name

bridgetreilly · 17/11/2025 22:19

Really like it. Also a Streatfeild fan.

Blingismything · 17/11/2025 23:21

I know a Sorrel, her sister is called Hebe. Lovely names.

Calliopespa · 20/11/2025 23:56

Sage? Lovage? Fennel?

PigeonsandSquirrels · 21/11/2025 00:18

I love it

user1492757084 · 21/11/2025 00:53

I like it. Yes it's a horse colour but mainly in the US and a reddish copper colour, a bit brighter than Chestnut

I wasn’t going to mention this but someone I know has a mare named sorrel because she is a chestnut.

Apart from that I like it as a name! But it does have equestrian overtones.

Edited to say sorry if this sounds impolite but I reckon it’s better to find this out on here than later on.
