Just that really.

I’ve read a few old threads on here where associations with Jade Goody were bought up, I’m early twenties and had to google who that even was though so does it still matter?

I like it! I didn’t think of Jade Goody.

I like it! I didn’t think of Jade Goody.

On the old threads I was reading amber was mentioned as an alternative which I think in this generation has a more negative celebrity association with amber heard and the whole pooing on the bed thing

It’s just a bit basic, isn’t it? I don’t think it screams doctor, pilot, teacher or accountant. Even before Jade Goody it was always a bit of an unclassy sort of name.

Comeonbabylightmyfire · 23/10/2025 12:11

The Jade Goody ‘connection’ wouldn’t worry me (why would it?).

Not keen on the name though.

I personally think it is quite classy short simple but pretty. I know a teacher called Danielle which to me is a stripper name or the name of the “cash me outside” girl.
I think any name can be classy if the individual is classy even chantelle

I think if it’s got another name hyphened next to it then that would break the goody link. God rest her soul.

Thelondonone · 23/10/2025 12:15

Jade is a naughty girl name in every school I’ve taught in. . Not in anyway classy and I didn’t make the jade hoody connection. It’s a no from me. It’s not been populate for about 10 years so that is a positive.

RaininSummer · 23/10/2025 12:16

I like it and wouldn't think of jade goody. Hyphenated with another name would be awful I think.

The only Jade I’ve ever met was really sweet

From where I am from (Canada and lived in the US) Jade, Amber, Crystal are considered trashy.

But hey if you live in the UK shouldn’t be a problem but that’s how I hear them.

Sadly I have also found that many Jades arw not necessarily the most aspirational character-type.

AllThisTime · 23/10/2025 12:28

It makes me think of Jade from Little Mix which is off putting.

TallulahBetty · 23/10/2025 12:30

Very 90s, but I like it

NuffSaidSam · 23/10/2025 12:32

I'm of the generation who went to school with a lot of Jade's and I don't have a positive view of the name. I'd never use it.

I love Jude though weirdly!

CotBedMug · 23/10/2025 12:34

Not a fan. It sounds like you like it though OP which is fine, each to their own.

DancingNotDrowning · 23/10/2025 12:35

Jade falls into the same category as Amber, Crystal, Brooke, Taylor, Bianca for me.

Slightly grim and depressing.

Beamur · 23/10/2025 12:37

I was very nearly called this back in the 1970's.
As a word, the meanings aren't great Tbh.

I hate it. Personal reasons though due to someone I once knew.
Ita very unclassy.

AllFours · 23/10/2025 12:39

Sorry, but I don’t have a positive view of the name Jade, either. And not because of Jade Goody, I didn’t care for the name prior to hearing of her.

Isn’t it weird how some names develop such negative connotations? Agree with a previous poster that Jade falls into the ‘stripper name’ category to my ears. 🫣 It’s unfortunate for the word as a name, because as a stone jade is quite beautiful!

DramaAlpaca · 23/10/2025 12:40

It's very dated. I'm not keen on it.

Hyphenated names are seriously awful and chavtastic.

Hyphenated names are seriously awful and chavtastic.

Our last name is too long for hyphenated first names anyway, I like shortish names for this reason our other children both have short names

I know they have very different vibes, but to me Jade has always seemed like a harsher version of Jane. It's quite a hard sound, and one of my least favourite stones.

If you like stone names i genuinely really like Beryl, although doubt it's coming back. Opal and Pearl are probably the trendiest at the moment. Still quite a few Rubies. Maybe Emerald.

DP is an Amber, and her sister is a Jade.

They both get the piss taken out of them on occasion for having "stripper" names, but no-one has ever mentioned either Jade Goody or Amber Heard to them. To be honest, I've only just made the connection that my partners name is the same as the other one, and I've been with her 20 years! So I wouldn't see that as a major issue.

Both of them like their names.
