My name has a male and female variant
It was number 36 the year I was given it
It was acceptable in the 80s
It's a bit French
It's also a little bit Essex
Most people shorten it

My favourite books as a child were the Heidi books but my name is not Heidi. Most people mispronounce my name as they think the ‘h’ is silent; is isn’t.

I'm relentlessly positive.

Well fortunately just Lisa, but “Moany Lisa” if I was ever in a bad mood as a child!!

I know lots of younger Lisas by the way

Anna?

@Glowingup spot on. But can you get the hyphened one? As I have no idea where it came from....my mum said it was a song but she is dead now and I have no idea!

I have had every male teacher with the exception of two, sing this famous hit song with my name as the title within a week or two of class starting, my entire life. I am old.

Maggie or Cecilia

SmolkedSamon · 14/10/2025 21:07

To say the shortened version of my name you need to say one letter twice. I have a second clue but might make it two easy…

Barbara?

Oddly, my parents claim to be unaware of the book...

It's French.
It's quite unusual.
It's never been popular but I think it's a nice name.
Part of it means little which is ironic because I'm big and tall.

Mignon??

"Kayleigh"? I am OLD. Think your moms friends names.

My name has both Latin and Germanic roots
It is a female version of a male name indicating a point on the compass and a gender
It was popularised by an opera in the early 19th century.

Yay, one I can get: Norma!
I also got Gillian and Tanya and Catherine....busy working my way through the thread.

FunkyFringe · 14/10/2025 21:18

H.E.Bates wrote a book about me.

AsanteSanaSquashBanana · 14/10/2025 21:18

My name often gets misheard as Tiffany or Bethany, and on one occasion, Daphne ...

Benifty · 14/10/2025 21:19

HelloVeritas · 14/10/2025 19:42

There are 3 ways to spell my name and it was popular in the 70’s and 80’s. Lots of women who have this as their first name, have Louise as their middle name.

Clare/Claire/Clair?

Glowingup · 14/10/2025 21:15

Anna-Louise? Anna-Marie?

@Glowingup I think you are either my sister or I love you! Is it a song? You are right but how did you know? Anna-Marie BTW.

Eve

Irish spelling aoibhe is nice. But not a palindrome.

caringcarer · 14/10/2025 21:20

I'm in Peter Pan.
