My name has a male and female variant
It was number 36 the year I was given it
It was acceptable in the 80s
It's a bit French
It's also a little bit Essex
Most people shorten it

@Glowingup I think you are either my sister or I love you! Is it a song? You are right but how did you know? Anna-Marie BTW.

Lol, I just thought of names that go well with Anna and those are the ones I thought of. Love the name Anna-Marie and also the name Anna on its own. Really underrated name.

Mine is Biblical, ageless and timeless but not very popular in the 1950s.
May be spelt with or without a certain consonant making it either a 4 or 5 letter name.

Barbara?

No. There is potentially someone on the thread with the same name. The clue is a little easier though than mine so won’t say it just yet. I always go by a shortened version these days. There was never anyone in my school in 90s with this name

Not sure my name has been massively popular. It means 'black' in Greek and back in the 90's 2 girls from a very well known girl band were called it!!

Same as me, Melanie!

Greenphonecase · 14/10/2025 21:29

I don't think my name is particularly popular these days but the male shortened version is. When I was at school there was a supply teacher who misheard me say my name and thought I was called Martha, maybe something to do with my west country accent? I was born late 60s if it helps.

Edited to correct spelling mistakes
