My name has a male and female variant
It was number 36 the year I was given it
It was acceptable in the 80s
It's a bit French
It's also a little bit Essex
Most people shorten it

My name has both Latin and Germanic roots
It is a female version of a male name indicating a point on the compass and a gender
It was popularised by an opera in the early 19th century.

Sue?

Yep - that's me! (Susan)

I always wanted to be something exotic like Jennifer or Jacqueline 😊

Sassylovesbooks · 14/10/2025 20:52

Not sure my name has been massively popular. It means 'black' in Greek and back in the 90's 2 girls from a very well known girl band were called it!!

I have had every male teacher with the exception of two, sing this famous hit song with my name as the title within a week or two of class starting, my entire life. I am old.

Mine is the surname of two very famous men, one is a gunslinger and one a 70s pop idol.

Don’t think mine has come up yet, and it’s massively common.
Very popular in the 60s until mid 70s - I’m nearly 50 and don’t know anyone younger than me with the name.
I know about 12 people with the same name and there’s a very famous painting (and song).

Comeonbabylightmyfire · 14/10/2025 21:00

I always hated my name until a popular 90’s tv show. Hippy parents! Very girly.

Postman pat theme tune… I have a toddler!

Early in the morning
Just as day is dawning
Pat feels he's a really happy man!

No. Thank you for playing.

Feetfingers · 14/10/2025 21:01

Think of two common traditional Christian names (Catholic?). Join them but not in alphabetical order. Then give a foreign, more European flavour.
