…just out of curiosity and because I’m still in thinking of names for my daughter due soon. Thanks

@FlipFlopVibe , i'm sure they'd get used to it. There are girls and women with names like Penelope, Hermione and the like.

I actually think Persephone is very straight forward and is pronounced very much like it is spelled. Unlike a lot of popular "unique" names with altered spellings, silent letters and random pronunciations.
It is a classic name-as are the examples above!

I’ve realized from this thread that I love “A” names - Athena, Astrid, Arabella. And my username.

girlmum6 · 12/08/2025 13:13

@Apollonia1me too although I already have a daughter with an ‘a’ name so thought I should avoid another.

Persephone is no more complicated than something like Georgia, Phoebe or Chloe.

I understand there’s long names but most of the UK population has heard of them and give it a good go, Pursephone doesn’t follow phonetics either so goes against how kids are taught to read and write.

I do like it for a cat though Puuuuursephone 😂 just not sure about shouting it down the road!

DuchessOfNarcissex · 12/08/2025 13:51

@FlipFlopVibe , it's Persephone. Just because you haven't heard of it, doesn't mean it would be a nightmare.

Has it been used since, like in AD times? I’ve not heard it used once and I work in public sector, I thought I’d seen everything!

My gd is called Persephone (Sephy), my dd is half Greek. Dd is surprised how popular it is atm!

Please tell me this isn't true

Unfortunately it is, all those pretty girl names and they pick that one 🫤.

Guess it saves labelling her clothes

I mean I'm not saying girls should only be called pretty names.
But Boden?!
All anyone will think of is the clothing company.
