I’m leaning towards it but worried about lack of nickname potential! Would love to hear thoughts

Pretty name. Why would she need a nickname?

CluelessAboutBiology · 23/06/2025 23:11

I love the name.

i have a friend called Verity, who is as lovely as her name, but doesn’t have a nickname.

A valid point! From experience though all 3 syllable+ names do seem to get shortened to something and not sure I’m keen on ‘Very’ as an inevitable nickname…

I really dislike it, don’t know why.

IDontHateRainbows · 23/06/2025 23:21

Sounds like a secretary from the typing pool in 1959 who wears horn rimmed glasses.

spiderlight · 23/06/2025 23:45

I know an awesome Verity in her late teens. Sometimes known as Vee, but she's usually just Verity.

researchers3 · 23/06/2025 23:49

I love it and would also just say V or Vee for a nickname!

Nackyposter · 23/06/2025 23:51

It’s lovely ❤️

Giggorata · 23/06/2025 23:55

I like it. But, my son once had a girlfriend called Verity, who was known as “Ferrety”

Ponderingwindow · 23/06/2025 23:57

I hate nicknames so that is a plus for me.

far too strong of an association with the book though. I believe there is also a movie coming out. I would google and make sure you understand the cultural connotations once that happens.

SpikeGilesSandwich · 24/06/2025 00:02

Pretty name, not overused or difficult to spell or pronounce, love it!

TheCurious0range · 24/06/2025 00:06

I went to uni with a Verity, lovely name, she went by V, but her mum called her Ritzy (very posh horsey type)

EmiliaRuusuvuori · 24/06/2025 00:08

I think it's a lovely name.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/06/2025 00:14

I know an 8 year old Verity , lovely.

Mossstitch · 24/06/2025 00:48

I know of an adult Verity, nickname Vez.

Crushed23 · 24/06/2025 01:21

That Black Mirror episode ruined it for me. Otherwise, a nice name.

FrodoBiggins · 24/06/2025 01:27

Love it, nice meaning. I have two friends called Verity, one is only ever Verity and one is sometimes "V", which I also think is cool.

Moreteaandchocolate · 24/06/2025 06:18

Sorry I’m not too keen - it’s got posh, “stand-off ish” vibes to me. I’d like it more if it had a useable friendly-sounding nn for day to day use.

Torkieshorkie · 24/06/2025 07:42

Awful
opposite of pretty

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 24/06/2025 07:44

I know 2 Verities. I've about 50, one about 15. Both known just as Verity. Both nice people. I like the name, but I do like virtue names as a whole. Who wouldn't want to be called "Truth".

Ikeameatballs · 24/06/2025 07:44

I love it. I’ve known two, one was always Verity and the other sometimes Vee.

SardinesOnGingerbread · 24/06/2025 07:47

So pretty. Absolutely love it. My kids would say she could be called Bitty when she's tiny x

PlasticAcrobat · 24/06/2025 07:49

I dislike it for some reason. I feel like there must have been a horrible Verity in some children's story that I have forgotten reading.

I also strongly dislike the idea of a name that means 'Truth'. It feels dogmatic and overly certain, like the family has a very rigid moral code.

It also makes me think of Trump's social media platform, Truth Social

Zebralie · 24/06/2025 07:50

Beautiful name. I wouldn’t shorten it - it’s easy to say!

Lookingforwardto2025 · 24/06/2025 07:50

I love it. It was the name I was planning to use if my IVF had worked and it was a girl. Name meanings are really important to me and I love that it means truth.
