ThatPeachSquid · 31/05/2025 14:12

Having a baby boy. Is Cosmo cool or too much? Our surname begins with a ā€œCā€ too.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Trying too hard to be different. Sorry.

Trying too hard to be different. Sorry.

This was my first thought

JustGiveMeWineNow · 31/05/2025 16:15

I really don’t like it. The only Cosmo’s I know are

  1. Cosmo car park
  2. Cosmo - all you can eat buffet restaurant

Cosmo all you can eat buffet was the first thing I thought of too.

I think it depends where you live.

Cosmo in Surrey. Honestly no one would bat an eyelid.

Sebora · 31/05/2025 16:22

It reminds me of Cosmo and Wanda from Fairly Odd Parents 🤣 Sorry OP. A pet maybe, but not a child.

ButteredRadish · 31/05/2025 16:23

There’s a boy in my DC’s class called Cosmo and I genuinely thought it was a nickname and said on the class group when saying thank you to his mum for something ā€œSorry, I don’t know his real name!ā€ šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø
It gets quite a few raised eyebrows and people saying ā€œDid you just say Cosmo?!?! That’s his name?!ā€

24Dogcuddler · 31/05/2025 16:24

Never taught or come across a Cosmo in all my 35 years of teaching.
For anyone around my age the Les Dawson comedy character Cosmo Smallpiece springs to mind so would be a no from me. If you love it and it’s OK where you live go for it.

24Dogcuddler · 31/05/2025 16:24

Came across oops

samarrange · 31/05/2025 16:25

I can't hear this name without adding "Smallpiece". I didn't even think Les Dawson was very funny, but apparently this name burrowed its way into my memory.

I really like cosmo

FuzzyPuffling · 31/05/2025 16:30

Anyone remember "Cosmo and Dibs"?

"Cosmo" was also the name of an Archbishop of Canterbury.

GingerBeverage · 31/05/2025 16:30

Heard this name several times in last 2 years. I think it’s becoming more popular.

Can you afford to send little Cosmo to a private school?

Because round our way you'd get seriously bullied for being a posh git with a name like that in any of the state schools.

Do kids really bully those with ā€˜posh’ names? Why? I struggle to see what’s bully worthy?

I can see how William might be bullied with Willy or Benedict with Bendy Dick etc, but Cosmo? I’m genuinely intrigued why your kids would do that?

BCBird · 31/05/2025 16:36

It sounds like a very upper clarss name.

Trying too hard to be different. Sorry.

This, exactly. It’s just trying too hard.

Bumbers · 31/05/2025 16:41

There is a Cosmo in my daughter's class. I quite like it. The parents are not British though... and the school is private!

I don’t think William is considered posh anymore. My son is William and has never been bullied for his name. Nor has he ever been called ā€œWillyā€

Magicboobies · 31/05/2025 16:42

Personally I dislike it. But you need to go with what you like there will be people don’t like everything :)

So parents shouldn’t try and and just pick a top 10 name?

i certainly wish my parents had tried a little harder!

MerryPortas · 31/05/2025 16:43

Cool, but posh

Well done you!

Duckyfondant · 31/05/2025 16:50

The stupid one from fairly odd parents. We had a hamster named after him. It's never struck me as cool

ChocolateGanache · 31/05/2025 16:52

Makes me think of Cosmo Landesman (born September 1954[1]) is a British-based American-born journalist and editor. With his then-wife Julie Burchill and friend Toby Young, he founded the magazine Modern Review, which operated from 1991 to 1995 with Young as editor.
