OP posts:

Dottydot · 20/05/2008 19:33

Hmm. It makes me think of Kennedy in Buffy - which is no bad thing!

kerala · 20/05/2008 19:33

Personally find the baby naming bit of this board invaluable. What better way to test out a general anonymous reaction to names you are considering - something your poor child will be stuck with for life. Responses the child will face (whether spoken or not) I would have thought will mirror the majority view on here.

And if you post your choices surely most people will brace themselves for honesty or what is the point?

FWIW I don't like Kennedy and spelt with an "i" I like even less. There are so many pretty girl's names around why give them surnames?

Oh and Sidney is a great name - for a little boy.

itwasntme · 20/05/2008 19:33

Don't do it. Kennedy doesn't sound to bad, for a boy, but don't like it for a girl, especially with odd spelling-

Sorry, but it reminds me of the US Kennedy family, most of whom seem to have died young and in tragic circumstances.

Too ghoulish for me.

kerala · 20/05/2008 19:34

And I post as someone who was told my choice sounded like a middle aged barmaid who smoked 60 a day!

dizzydixies · 20/05/2008 19:37

kerala apparently I have given my girls poor choices too - one is too common and safe and the other is too chav - and thats all without me asking, just from gleening info from when others have asked

I used a different board just for babynames as they are really creative in their critisism and helpful in their advice

I know a girl called Kenneda (not sure of spelling). Not sure if it's Irish

Desiderata · 20/05/2008 19:43

Bloody hell, Kerala! Did you name your child after me

Quattrocento · 20/05/2008 19:43

A variant on a variant - what about Candida maybe, pointy?

posieparker · 20/05/2008 19:44

The trouble with asking for opinions is people give it, so two reasons for asking 1)because you think it's lovely and you think everyone will agree or 2) you genuinely want to know.
My baby girl (if a girl) will be Posie, I am not asking because I love it!!!

pointydog · 20/05/2008 19:46

no, is Kenneda. Her sister has an unusual name too but can't remember it. I am useless.

Roobie · 20/05/2008 19:51

Go for Kennedy if you must (not particularly keen but I've heard worse) but dispense with the bizarre spelling.

it's your choice, it woudlnt be mine

expatinscotland · 20/05/2008 19:56

A lot of people are very secretive about the names they've chosen. For good reason.

I've already taken to calling this baby Muireann because I think it is a girl.

I hope he forgives me if I am wrong and find out next month he is a Struan.

umberella · 20/05/2008 20:00

expat - is that pronounced 'mirren'? It's lovely.

I really wanted Marsaili until found out DP had a fling with someone of that name

CristinaTheAstonishing · 20/05/2008 20:01

I don't like it at all. I like Stefan from your list, so I think we have totally different tastes.

expatinscotland · 20/05/2008 20:02

Yes, it's pronounced Mirren.

I like Stefan, too.

Every 'Stefan' I've met has been cool.

But after that ya lost me, OP, sorry.

I prefer traditional or names from one's ethnicity.

janeite · 20/05/2008 20:04

PosieParker - I LOVE the name Posie (but I spell it Posy a la "Ballet Shoes"). I wanted it to be dd2's middle name but dp was having none of it!

OP - I'm sorry but I really, really don't like the name Kennedy in any of your variations but I understand why others say it sits well with your children's names. If you do decide to go for it, go for the "proper" spelling at least.

Ceolas · 20/05/2008 20:05

Definitely not to my taste. And the weirdy spelling will do her no favours in life.

Nancy66 · 20/05/2008 20:07

Names DO matter in life, especially in this country and it's naive to think that they don't.

If a firm of lawyers were intereviewing candidates and it came down to two: Sarah or Kennedi, which name do you think they'd want on their letter head?

I'm not saying it's right, I'm saying that's the way it is.

Janni · 20/05/2008 20:21

I have never heard it as a girl's name and my immediate reaction is 'NO'. I might prefer it if you spelled it Kennedy, but then I'd just think of the violinist Nigel Kennedy...

I don't like it, to be honest

chegirl · 20/05/2008 20:31

I have read most of the replies and then just gave up.
If you like the name then use it for your little girl. Spell how you want to and sod everyone who doesnt like it. Its your choice.

Wouldnt dream of asking other people what they thought of my choice of names for my kids. By the way I have a Jaidon. I didnt actually choose it, he came with it and we kept it. It has the reputation of being a new, chavvy name. It is a Hebrew name meaning 'G-D has heard/answered/listened. SO THERE

chegirl · 20/05/2008 20:33

'It goes well with all your other names' .....

expatinscotland · 20/05/2008 20:36

You can say 'God' here, che.

You can even say 'Fuck'.
