Thoughts on Lumina?

Lumina is name of Latin origin. I heard it's first used in 1800s and it means 'lights'. I pronounce it LOO-me-na and potential nickname I would use, if needed, is Lumie, but I prefer Lumina.

What do you think?

Lumie is a famous brand of alarm clocks and that’s what my mi d goes to when I hear Lumina too.

Shame as it is a very pretty name otherwise.

spuddy4 · 30/10/2024 13:48

My alarm clock is a Lumie, it reminds me of that.

MainStreetOrHighStreet · 30/10/2024 13:49

It made me think of Phillips Lumea, sorry OP. I agree it's a really pretty sound though.

Procrastinates · 30/10/2024 13:50

Honestly I'd think you'd had a bump to the head. It sounds completely bonkers.

Notellinganyone · 30/10/2024 13:50

Lucy and Lucia mean light. Lumina doesn’t really sound like a name.

Pollypoppy · 30/10/2024 13:52

It sounds like a relative of Lumiere from Beauty And The Beast so it’s a no from me.

Loubilou23 · 30/10/2024 13:53

It doesn't sound like a name, sounds all wrong in the mouth and reminds me of a brand of lightbulb or what someone would call a light show at christmas time.

Yes me too, as soon as I read the thread title I instantly thought of this. Then the nickname I thought of the alarm clock.

rwalker · 30/10/2024 13:54

Dreadful

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 30/10/2024 13:54

Yes, it sounds like a brand of lamp to me too, unfortunately, as it's a very pretty name. Luce, perhaps, which also means light?

ErrolTheDragon · 30/10/2024 13:57

Sounds like a company/brand name.... a quick search finds a few.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/10/2024 13:58

And also very like alumina.

Fontainebleau007 · 30/10/2024 13:59

Sounds like a lighting company, sorry 🙈

AnnaMagnani · 30/10/2024 13:59

Sounds like Lumea, Lumie and worst of all would get shortened to Loo.

AnOldCynic · 30/10/2024 14:00

Yes, reminded me of hair removal.

OliviaRodrighost · 30/10/2024 14:09

It’s a brand of camera.

SoporificLettuce · 30/10/2024 14:13

Nope. Not for me.
Lucie is nice if you like the reference to light.

Decisionstomake1 · 30/10/2024 14:15

Alarm clock / candlestick from beauty and the beast spring to mind. I agree with others Lucy or Lucia would be better. It’s not particularly pretty or with a nice sound or feel imo.

MeowCatPleaseMeowBack · 30/10/2024 14:15

It sounds like a medicine to me.

Lucia, Lucie/Lucy are much better.

I know a lumina, nn Mina

Stretchedresources · 30/10/2024 14:17

Hair removal or wake up clock. Possibly a Harry Potter theme.
It's a pretty name though. Children probably won't make the associations.

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 30/10/2024 14:19

I'm pretty sure it's the name of some sort of skincare laser thing

EarthlyNightshade · 30/10/2024 14:20

Luminal is an anti seizure drug. That was my first thought.

Me to.

I think it would get mispronounced a lot also -

  • Lum-min na,
  • Loom-mi - na
