Thoughts on Lumina?

Lumina is name of Latin origin. I heard it's first used in 1800s and it means 'lights'. I pronounce it LOO-me-na and potential nickname I would use, if needed, is Lumie, but I prefer Lumina.

What do you think?

It sounds like a brand of contraceptive pill.

Marblesbackagain · 30/10/2024 14:29

It's a popular company lighting name in Ireland and I would assume elsewhere. It also is a name of a rather famous adult actress of the 2010s, so goggle may not be her friend in years to come
.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/10/2024 14:31

It sounds like a highlighter.

BoleynMemories13 · 30/10/2024 14:35

Awful, it sounds like a brand name for a cleaning product or something.

Sorry

Startinganew32 · 30/10/2024 14:40

Wtf, as a name for a baby??? I thought this was about the hair removal device.
No, sweetie, no.

Moreteaandchocolate · 30/10/2024 14:42

Not keen either, sorry. I agree it sounds like a lighting company. Shame as it’s a pretty sound Luna / Lorena / Leona / Milena / Talulah / Paloma / Amila maybe?

mathanxiety · 30/10/2024 14:57

Sounds like a medicine or a brand of light bulbs, or possibly a car.

A quick Google turns up a movie, a search engine, an online recruitment tool, a brand of Webcam, and more.

Plus Lumie is too close to Looney.

Anonycat · 30/10/2024 14:58

Just no.

FrostFlowers2025 · 30/10/2024 15:04

What about Ileana, Kiara or Ayla?

They all have a "luminous" meaning.

DanielaDressen · 30/10/2024 15:15

I was going to say you have to use it regularly to reduce hair growth when I saw thread title but realise you’re talk baby names. Nope.

IsadoraQuagmire · 30/10/2024 15:17

I immediately thought of Luminol and testing for bloodstains.

MerryChristmasToYou · 30/10/2024 17:09

Dreadful. Sounds like a cheap brand name.

40andlovelife · 30/10/2024 17:10

I don't know why but it reminds me of hair removal .

No.

AnOldCynic · 30/10/2024 14:00

Yes, reminded me of hair removal.

Exactly what I thought of too.

wickerlady · 30/10/2024 17:11

Sounds like a brand of Telly.

SabreIsMyFave · 30/10/2024 17:12

wickerlady · 30/10/2024 17:11

Sounds like a brand of Telly.

Or a camera! 📸

Floralsofa · 30/10/2024 17:14

I love my Philips Lumea

Waterboatlass · 30/10/2024 17:15

It's a shame, in isolation I quite like it but it sounds like far too many brand names to work as a name

RaraRachael · 30/10/2024 17:16

It makes me think of Luminol - the stuff that forensic scientists use to find traces of blood at a murder scene.

Topseyt123 · 30/10/2024 17:17

I really wouldn't.

Luminous, meaning glows in the dark and is very similar as they have the same root. Will your baby glow in the dark? 🤣

I remember as a child when luminous wrist watches were all the rage. I had a child's one for Christmas one year and I was delighted. I thought it was just the ticket! 😃

VikingLady · 30/10/2024 17:18

It sounds like a hair removal device, sorry.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 30/10/2024 17:18

It sounds like a brand name.

Clare also means light and is an actual, pretty name.

AlexandraPeppernose · 30/10/2024 17:20

It sounds like a brand of coil or menstrual cup

Topseyt123 · 30/10/2024 17:21

Lucy means light too. As do Helen/Helena/ Elena. Those are Greek rather than Latin though.
