Kai for a boy?

My favourite is Kai and DH is Noah. Well I have a lot more favourites that DH has vetoed! These are the only ones from the lists that haven’t been dismissed. I’m aware Noah is currently no. 1 I think.
And I had grown up on MN that “K” names were a no/no so I’m torn 😂

Noah is lovely.

JMSA · 23/09/2024 10:35

I think Kai is a wee bit chavvy. Really sorry Blush

CrunchyCarrot · 23/09/2024 10:36

I like Kai!

Loggingoverandout · 23/09/2024 10:36

@JMSA thats what I thought it would be but didn’t think I could write chavvy without getting slated 😂 I’ve always seen K names as such!

There are many names better than Kai. Might be worth googling what Kai means in other languages too.

YourMommaWasASnowblower · 23/09/2024 10:37

I’m not a fan of Kai, it sounds like a sound rather than a name.
I don’t like Noah much either. I’ve known a few and they’ve always been brats!

DillDanding · 23/09/2024 10:38

Kai is the ultimate chav name. Noah infinitely preferable.

DinaofCloud9 · 23/09/2024 10:39

K names are chavvy?

Someone better tell Keira Knightley she's a chav.

Kenneth, Kerry, Kim are all normal names surely?

UltramarineViolet · 23/09/2024 10:39

My opinion of the name Kai has been improved a bit by Kai on Strictly who is lovely but sadly it still gives off Jeremy Kyle vibes for me

Loggingoverandout · 23/09/2024 10:40

Kai means Sea/Ocean in Hawaiian, knew it might have been considered chavvy and don’t want to do that to a child 😂

Cai (pronounced the same as Kai) is a Welsh name meaning rejoice/happy

Lucy377 · 23/09/2024 10:44

Is your DH that he's being too dismissive of your names?
Go back over some of your own favourites too and don't be too accepting when he says 'No' especially if he does it really fast after first hearing it.

ILoveAnnaQuay · 23/09/2024 10:49

My son (now 28) has a K name and I've never considered that it has a "chavvy" (hate that word) connotation.

Loads of posh people have names starting with K - Keira Knightly, Kate Middleton, Kit Harrington.

Call your baby whatever you want. Fashions change. I wanted to call my son Noah and got talked out of it as people said he would get bullied as it was such a ridiculous old fashioned name. Now there's loads of little Noahs running around

NoahsTortoise · 23/09/2024 10:52

I don't necessarily consider Kai to be chavvy but I do think it's a little dated to the 2010ish era.

But equally if you love it then don't let anything put you off! It's a perfectly fine name 😊

KirstenBlest · 23/09/2024 11:02

I know a few called Cai, which is Welsh.

In Hindi it means algae and in Hong Kong Cantonese it means idiot.

Dotto · 23/09/2024 11:03

Kit is nicer, or Bryce

Purplecatshopaholic · 23/09/2024 11:06

Kai with a K is not classy. Cai is nicer, if there’s a Welsh connection. Noah is just too bloody common.

DramaAlpaca · 23/09/2024 11:07

There's nothing wrong with K names. I've never understood the issue with them on here.

Kai isn't a name I'd choose, but it's infinitely nicer than the whiny Noah.

DrFosterWentToGloucester23 · 23/09/2024 11:10

I taught a lovely Kai last year. It has positive associations for me.

Fontainebleau007 · 23/09/2024 11:11

I prefer Kai over Noah personally

I know a Welsh Cai. Nothing remotely “chavvy” about the name

Gentleray · 23/09/2024 11:14

Not that you said it was @Button28384738 , just addressing previous comments!

LoyalCrab · 23/09/2024 11:16

I’ve taught a lot of kids and I’ve never met a Kai (or Tyler, anything than ends in -den) that wasn’t a bit of a trouble maker. Noah is a much nicer name.

DefinitelyNotMaybe · 23/09/2024 11:18

Kye (pronounced the same) means cattle in the North East.
