Thought on Aliena

As in variation on Alyona, and because of charcter in Shakespeare, not because aliens.
I would pronounce it A-lee-en-a. I dont mind slight variation in pronunciation, but do care that middle two syllables are pronounced lee-en.

Do you think Aliena is usable? I like Celia, as well, but not as Aliena.

Spelt that way, they are always going to be called Alien and the many many many jokes that will go alongside that.

If you want Aleena, call them Aleena

FourForYouGlenCoco1 · 17/09/2024 10:50

I immediately thought of Shakespeare, but I think you’d get a LOT of mispronouncing.

CrossUniStudent · 17/09/2024 10:55

I'd probably pronounce that a-leen-a.

What about alyiena?

Everleigh13 · 17/09/2024 10:56

I wouldn’t use that name to be honest. I think the alien association is too much.

PortiasBiscuit · 17/09/2024 10:56

Dear God, please don’t.

FriendlyNeighbourhoodAccountant · 17/09/2024 10:57

Oh come on.

👽 👽 👽
Alyona and Aleena are both lovely.

Clumsy12345 · 17/09/2024 11:00

No٫ would you like to be called that?

Moveoverdarlin · 17/09/2024 11:00

All her life she will get called Alien.

Phone calls will go like this l…

Name? Aliena
How do you spell that? A L I E N A
Oh, like Alien with an A on the end.

ThatsNotMyTeen · 17/09/2024 11:01

Good god no

ErrolTheDragon · 17/09/2024 11:02

Do you think Aliena is usable?

No. No way.

Maybe Alyena might work for a more obvious 'A-lee-en-a' pronunciation and the y takes it away from the inevitable 'Alien' territory.

Cattenberg · 17/09/2024 11:03

I’m not keen. Aleena/Alina, Elena or Aliona would be easier to spell and pronounce.

Talipesmum · 17/09/2024 11:04

Just finished listening to an audiobook with a main character Aliena. It was pronounced there as “ally-ay-nah” “ally-eh-nah”. (My two attempts to write it phonetically). It’s a nice name, and because I’ve heard it pronounced that way I wouldn’t think “alien-ah”.

BigSmallFigBall · 17/09/2024 11:05

No. Sorry.

Why can't you just use Alyona?

corkcrewsocks · 17/09/2024 11:05

I've come across a few Alina's in my life but wouldn't go with your spelling. It looks like Alien 👽

Oceangreyscale · 17/09/2024 11:05

Alyena could work but not Aliena sorry. But the sound would be the same.

Ohfuckrucksack · 17/09/2024 11:06

Allay ah nah sounds frightfully posh and overdone - "it's ahhhh naaaaahhh dahling'

lifeturnsonadime · 17/09/2024 11:08

I know an Alannah, that’s a pretty name. Please don’t use Aliena , for reasons given upthread.

Arctangent · 17/09/2024 11:09

I strongly urge you not to use a name that's easily mispronounced. And definitely not one that will get people saying Alien-a.

Alyona is better. Or Celia. Or even Alina/Alena, though you'll be battling spelling with that.

I had a name that could be spelled/pronounced two ways and it was a nightmare.

LittleSparklyStar · 17/09/2024 11:09

What about Alyena? Aleena?

Yes, that's a lovely name.

Frozenberries · 17/09/2024 11:13

Aliena - come on.

Eliana, Ariana, Liana, Alannah, Alina, anything but Aliena
