Full name for Emmy

[Sept2024]

7 months pregnant wirh baby girl. my partner and i have named our baby girl Emmy, thinking her full name will be Clementine.

ive had feedback from others though that clementine is just a tad too unique (i dont mind feedback!). Wondering if anyone can think of another full name for Emmy that isnt Emily, Emma, Emmerson or Emmeline?

Clementine is a beautiful name. It's not unique, but not overly popular.
I prefer it to the more commonly used Emma and Emily - although they're all very nice names.

Clementine isn't 'too unique', whatever that means. On the contrary - it's currently having a moment.

That said - if you actually want to call her Emmy, then her birth cert name is more to be looked at from her (potential future) perspective than yours, surely? Emmeline and Emily are fine names.

Clementine is a lovely name! Well established - Churchill's wife was called Clementine.

The people giving you negative feedback about the name are just expressing opinions. If you want to call your baby Clementine I think you should go for it, plenty of other people will think it's delightful.

Clementine will be shortened to Clemmie once she's at school.

Emmeline?

Clementine is very unpleasant sounding. Weirdly mucusy, and puts me in mind of the awful Clementine Ford and her swivel-eyed fascist ranting.

Having a nickname that doesn't begin with the same letter as your first name is a pain as an adult. This isn't really the time to show how clever and unique you are ..

Clementine makes me think of oranges. Sorry.

If she's going to be known as Emmy why bother worrying about Clementine and just call her Emmy.
DC1 25 has a friend called Emmie, it's served her pretty well so far.

Clementines friends will call her Clemmy, not Emmy.

If you don’t mind being alternative then Emmy can be short for Ember. I guess that’s even more unique than Clementine though!

I agree with others that Clementine will become Clemmy, not Emmy. If you’re set on Emmy I’d say to call her Emmy or something beginning with Em. I think Emilia is nice. So is Clementine if you don’t mind her being called Clem or Clemmy.

If you love Emmy and plan to call her that why does it need to be short for anything? Emmy is a name in it’s own right, I know a few. When I was pregnant we considered Beth but it was only ever going to be Beth and not short for Elizabeth.

We have an Emilia who goes by Emmy or Millie or now (just started Secondary School) by Emilia... I do think it's a great name for various nicknames.

I didn't really know of Emmeline at the time but think it's beautiful too and a great option.

If you like the name "Emmy" then just have that. Why think of a name that fits with the name you actually want to use?

Agree with others though re choosing a name YOU love, and that Clementine will get shortened to Clemmie/Clemmy.

I don’t think you can impose a nickname, especially if it sounds quite different to, and begins with a different sound to p, the full name. I agree it’s quite likely your daughter would call herself and be widely known as ‘Clemmie’, and that if you don’t like this, you should call her Emily, Emilia, Emmeline, Emma etc. Our cleaner is ‘Emelie’, which is pretty.

I’m not wild about either Clementine (which just sets the song about death and drowning and size nine feet off in my head) or Clemmie. I think that ‘Cl’ suggests too many words like ‘claggy’ or ‘clammy’, or ‘clamped’ or ‘clemmed’?

I’m not keen on clementine - and agree she’ll end up as Clem or Clemmie.

I’d go for Emma or Emilia.

At a push, any name which begins with M could be shortened to Em, and then get Emmy from there…

I’ve come across a few Clementines (work with children) with the oldest being 16 and youngest maybe 3 and each time it’s suited her so much. I definitely don’t think it’s too unique
