7 months pregnant wirh baby girl. my partner and i have named our baby girl Emmy, thinking her full name will be Clementine.

ive had feedback from others though that clementine is just a tad too unique (i dont mind feedback!). Wondering if anyone can think of another full name for Emmy that isnt Emily, Emma, Emmerson or Emmeline?

fhanks!

Emerson.

Emmeline?

Clementine is very unpleasant sounding. Weirdly mucusy, and puts me in mind of the awful Clementine Ford and her swivel-eyed fascist ranting.

Totally agree

Emmeline is much nicer

Viviennemary · 04/09/2024 08:59

Don't like Clementine very much. Or many of the others. Emilia is nice though.

FayCarew · 04/09/2024 09:01

Look for a name that starts with Em e.g. Emerald
Browse Names - Behind the Name

Clementine -> Emmy is too much of a stretch. She might decide she prefers Clemmie or Tina or something. As pp a known by name that starts with a different letter is a pain.

You could just call her Emmy, but it'll blend in to all the Ellies.

Emma, Emily, or Emmeline. Not Clementine. Shock

Thanks so much for all your great suggestions. It’s a long story as to how we got to Clementine. I love the name but I also am called Briana which is shortened to Bree a lot so as context I’m basically worried we’d have too many foodie names in the family!

and the nickname Emmy just stuck somehow over the last few months so we know that is probably to be her name really. Just that my husband LOVES the name Clementine.

i think leaving it short and simple is also a good idea. I wonder if we made her full name just “Emmy” but spelt it like “Emme” that sounds less nickname-y to me but people might read it as just “Em”

make all your lives easier and just name the baby Emmy, if that's the name you want to use. Sounds so complicated otherwise.

Edited

I'd definitely read 'Emme' as 'Em.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 04/09/2024 09:26

Emmeline.

fizzymizzy · 04/09/2024 09:27

You are going to call her Emmy.

Put Emmy on the BC.

Use the spelling Emmy.

You do not need to complicate her name.

FayCarew · 04/09/2024 09:30

Emme would be 'M'. Call her Elly or Emmie.

SatinHeart · 04/09/2024 09:39

Honestly, Clementine is a really nice name and not that unique (I know 2 under 5). I would use it.

Aussiegold · 04/09/2024 09:43

If you call her Clementine and her friends don't call her Clem Fandango, then something has gone badly wrong........just saying........

Andoutcomethewolves · 04/09/2024 09:45

Clementine will very probably end up as Clemmie and even my very cool, very beautiful friend can't carry that off IMO (too much like phlegmy/clammy for me). I'm also not a big fan of the full name.

I'd just put Emmy tbh. Possibly Emme but with an accent on the last letter to make it clearer it's meant to be a separate syllable? Though that may result in Em-may.

HappyDane · 04/09/2024 09:49

Oh I like Clementine, I think it's really pretty.

I think if you call her Emmy day-to-day from the beginning then it's really unlikely that people would think up another diminutive for her since that's already a good easy name to say, only two syllables.

HappyDane · 04/09/2024 09:50

Otherwise Emmeline, Emily, Amelia.

Emme isn't a good idea, imo - she'll just be called Em, as that's how it's pronounced.

Apollo365 · 04/09/2024 09:51

Never tell anyone the name before they are born. She is your child, name her Clementine

FuzzyDiva · 04/09/2024 09:51

I know three Clementines (two are adults) and have heard of other children with the name. I think it’s possibly a marmite name (I like it) and is having a popularity surge.

Babychewtoy · 04/09/2024 09:56

Emme will definitely be read as Em.

If you love Emmy and that’s the name you intend to use then I would just name her Emmy - it’s pretty standard these days to have a shortened name as a full name. I think that feels more authentic than reverse engineering a name that you never intend to use.

I’m really not a fan of Clementine. And Emmy is not a natural shortening of it either.

Oor · 04/09/2024 10:03

I would go with Clementine- it’s lovely .

I do also know 2 children called Emmy as a full name although one spells it Emmie.

if you choose Emme she’ll get called Em

OneFastDuck · 04/09/2024 10:04

I like Clementine but discounted it because its a bit too common definitely not unique around here!

Carouselfish · 04/09/2024 10:05

I've know a couple of Clementines who are called Clem. I much prefer your shortening to it!

Emmy could be Emerald, Esmerelda, Maria,

JimJonesLivesInMyHead · 04/09/2024 10:06

How about Emmylou? I love that name (probably because I'm a big fan of Emmylou Harris)

PickledMuffin · 04/09/2024 10:07

Emeline

Oor · 04/09/2024 10:07

You could have Noemi, Emery or Emerald (I don’t like them as much as clementine though)

or you could go with something like Molly Emma so her initials spell M E and get the nickname from that. I’d still stick with clementine though
