7 months pregnant wirh baby girl. my partner and i have named our baby girl Emmy, thinking her full name will be Clementine.

ive had feedback from others though that clementine is just a tad too unique (i dont mind feedback!). Wondering if anyone can think of another full name for Emmy that isnt Emily, Emma, Emmerson or Emmeline?

fhanks!

Nothing wrong with Clementine. It's my DH grans name.

Emilia is a very pretty name.

Nothing wrong with just Emmy either.

I've know a couple of Clementines who are called Clem. I much prefer your shortening to it!

But Clementine's friends are likely to call her Clem or Clemmie. That's the easiest and most intuitive shortening

But surely they won't call her that if she's introduced/introduces herself as Emmy?

Your baby will have whatever nickname you give her while she's young, then later she might choose to go by something else.
I say stick with Clementine/Emmy if that's the name you love. People just get a bit funny at anything even slightly away from the 'norm' these days, they'll soon get used to it and won't be able to imagine her with any other name

If you both like Emmy just go with that no need for a longer name on the birth cert. If you do go for a longer name you run the risk of not getting your preferred nn once she starts school.

From experience my dd is Imogen and as a baby & toddler she was Immy, once she started school she didn’t like that nn so became Imogen for a while her nn was then Imz, Idgy and now as nearly an adult she goes by Midge to family and close friends.

Clementine is lovely. And not that unique at all. But what's wrong with name being unique anyway?!?

ilikeeggs · 04/09/2024 12:37

Emerald?

Sawitch · 04/09/2024 12:46

Just name her Emmy. We gave our daughter a longer name in case she wanted to use it as an adult but always used the shortened version. She wishes we'd just given her the shortened version as she doesn't relate to the longer name at all.

Emmeline. Mother of women’s rights movement!

(my daughter is named after her!)

but Clementine is fabulous too!

Is it? My nickname (that I go by almost all the time) begins with a different letter to my full name and it's never been an issue? I can't think how it would be an issue?

OP I prefer Clementine to all the alternatives suggested, aside from Emmeline which is also lovely.

Having a nickname that starts with a different letter to my full name has never affected me at all. I haven’t even thought about it before

Edingril · 04/09/2024 12:51

Emmeline is all I can think of, can't see the link with Emmy and Clementine

PoliteOtter · 04/09/2024 12:52

I like Clementine but Emmy feels like a forced shortening of it. Clemmie is nice. My Gran had a friend called Emmy, no idea what it was short for but given her age it was probably Emmeline, it was also spelt Emme.

SlothIsma · 04/09/2024 12:54

Use Clementine, it's lovely. I don't think having too many food reference names is an issue at all, you might be overthinking it

Spidey66 · 04/09/2024 12:57

I think Clementine is a gorgeous name, but will get shortened to Clemmie. Emilia is a lovely name. One of my nieces is called Emilia, though she's known as Emilia!

BrightLady · 04/09/2024 12:59

I know a little Emme, pronounced Emmy. I'd go with that

Emily or Emma. Obviously.

not everyone willl extrapolate Emmy from clementine

congolongalee · 04/09/2024 13:21

I'd just use the name Emmy! It's lovely on its own. I'm mid thirties and have a friend called Emmy and my DD5 has a girl in her class called Emmie so definitely a name in its own right.

Firebird83 · 04/09/2024 15:55

Clementine or Emerald

Liv999 · 04/09/2024 16:24

Just call her Emmy, if you call her Clementine people will call her Clemmie

Featherrrr · 04/09/2024 17:27

Emery/Emory?

nameXname · 04/09/2024 18:03

OP very best wishes, and this is absolutely not directed at you personally, but 'unique' means 'the only single one in the entire universe' NOT 'a little bit unusual in our locality'.
As others have said, Clementine is quite popular; top 200 in the last year for which govt. figures have been released. (If you'd like to check - here's the best website: https://names.darkgreener.com/ ) So what about 'official' name Emma or Emerald, and the short form of your choosing. Both nice names; Emma goes back for over 1000 years.

If it's any help, my grandmother was named Emmy when she was born 120 years ago. It was ok then and it's ok now.

LostittoBostik · 04/09/2024 22:12

If she's Clementine the nickname will end up being Clemmie. Go with it if you're ok with that

DietQueen2023 · 04/09/2024 22:20

Emiliana - knew someone with this name she shortened it to Emi, such a beautiful name 😍
