What do you think of Roderick

What do you think of Roderick? With possible nickname Roddy or Ro. It has same origins as Spanish Rodrigo. I don't know what to think of Roderick, but I kinda like it because I'm trying to find longer names to add to my list, that are also unusual and acceptable, but don't really like Rodrigo.

It’s reminds me of diary of a whimpy kid. Very American.

No

Fifthtimelucky · 24/08/2024 14:25

Personally I don't like the sound of it at all. I think it's clunky and hard sounding.

Rodrigo is much more pleasant sounding name, but I wouldn't call a child that unless it had some Spanish ancestry.

I usually prefer longer names to shortened ones, but I wanted Roddy I'd just call them that.

We had to dissect a rat for Biology A level.

I called mine Roderick.

CarlaBruni · 24/08/2024 14:35

Years ago, I had a boyfriend with the shortening you're thinking of. I used to avoid saying his name out loud.

Me too. OP it’s a terrible name. What has your poor baby done for you to consider that name

WildCherryBlossom · 24/08/2024 14:50

Welease Wodewick was my first thought too. I suppose not that many school children are Monty Python fans so it's probably ok to use it.

At lease 2 of my DC would think of this but they are probably in the minority at schools these days in having a Monty Python quote ready for any conceivable situation.

lollyPaloozah · 24/08/2024 14:50

if you like Roderick how about Alaric? Bit of a nicer sound

Redlarge · 24/08/2024 14:51

Rodders

Xyz1234567 · 24/08/2024 14:54

Mmm, it's an amalgamation of rod and dick or roddy dick, neither of which creates pretty pictures in my mind, sorry.
