What do you think of Roderick

What do you think of Roderick? With possible nickname Roddy or Ro. It has same origins as Spanish Rodrigo. I don't know what to think of Roderick, but I kinda like it because I'm trying to find longer names to add to my list, that are also unusual and acceptable, but don't really like Rodrigo.

Genuinely awful, no redeeming features whatsoever, no good short versions or nicknames.

Just an all round no.

Berlinlover · 24/08/2024 17:56

Very old mannish.

StarCourt · 24/08/2024 17:56

Monty Python

Brightredtulips · 24/08/2024 17:56

I love it but my in laws asked why I'd name my son after a stick in rod. So I changed my mind. I still love Roddy and wish I hadn't listened to them.

Brightredtulips · 24/08/2024 17:57

ie Rod

Frith2013 · 24/08/2024 17:58

Don't be silly, OP.

Leah5678 · 24/08/2024 17:59

I actually love it but it reminds me of diary of a wimpy kids older brother. Do kids still read those? If not I'd go for it his classmates aren't going to be thinking of wodewick or whatever people are talking about on here.

‘Welease Woderwick’

Yup

That's Rodney you plonker

I was coming onto say I know it was Rodney but it’s too close to Only Fools and Horses!

Firebird83 · 24/08/2024 18:12

I think it’s ok! Better than Rodney

Megifer · 24/08/2024 18:23

Also thought "welease woderick" 🤣

Baby Roderick tho 😩

NN will be Rod.

Or Rodders.

Hotrod

.....no. please don't name a helpless little baby Roderick.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 24/08/2024 18:24

It's my eldest's third name. And only because it's a family name. Roddy isn't so bad, but Roderick is horribly overblown and clunky.

MrsBobtonTrent · 24/08/2024 18:29

I sway between Python and Spode. Poor kid.

permanently · 24/08/2024 18:46

Roddy is lovely. Rodden on the birth certificate?

AlwaysKindaKnewYoudBeTheDeathOfMe · 24/08/2024 18:49

Yeah who doesn't long to be named something that sounds exactly like rotten?

Not like there are thousands of nice names out there to choose from...

Simonjt · 24/08/2024 18:49

I know three, but they all spell it Rhoderick, all good old MN someone on page one thinks a Scottish name is too American, because of course America is evil.

AgnesX · 24/08/2024 18:50

I love Roderick and all the Gaelic variations but it'll probably be shortened to Roddy or Rod.

User6761 · 24/08/2024 18:56

I love the name Roddy but not Roderick - too long and formal for my tastes. For me, Roddy is a Scottish name (I know a few Roddys from the Western Isles). I really like Rhodri but with no Welsh heritage wasn't sure we could pull it off!
