Need the most unusual/out there boys names you can think of

Baby due Jan 2025. Already have a girl's name picked - don't want to say what as it's too outing if anyone knows me on here, it's an unusual rarely used name but lovely and everyone we've told really likes it and we are very happy with it.

We can't agree on a boy's name at all. I already have a DS (previous partner) with quite an unusual name but still in the top 100 but my DH definitely likes more "out there" names!
Give me your favourite unique boy names for inspiration please! We've looked at thousands of names on lists and just can't find one we like for a boy whatsoever. I know we have plenty of time (and might not even have a boy) but with my son I had his name picked before I was ever even pregnant so I'm struggling not knowing!

Look at colour names like Alizarin and
Viridian

Viridian is the name of a health food/vits company, and locally a gardening firm 😀 Alizarin sounds like the baddie in a YA fantasy novel.

Much better than Lazarus though 🤣

How about Rogan? With Josh as a middle name?

Just stick with Ezekiel op.

Yes, it’s heavily Biblical sounding but there’s worse things. Some cultures use almost exclusively religious names so I don’t see that being a huge problem .

It’s an actual name, it doesn’t conjure up images of corpses or bloodthirsty emperors. It shortens ok and is easy to pronounce. I feel like the kid has got off lightly with Ezekiel. It’s even quite cute yet fine for a man. Stay with Ezekiel ( and the kid owes us one big time …)

I love my grandsons name.
He was born in Tasmania. His parents were working and living there. Abel Tasmin was the first European to discover Tasmania so they called him Abel for that reason. They love to tell the story of why he was given his name.
I have only ever met one other Abel and he is the only one in his school, so quite unique for this lovely boy🥰 wish you good luck with your newborn

Nightjar33 · 12/08/2024 15:27

My other grandson has Ezra as his middle name and wishes it was his first

Both great unusual names. I was going to suggest Ezra as OP’s DH seems to like the z sound.

I agree. I think once I'd said to DH that Lazarus was associated with lepers (he knew the whole back from the dead story but didn't realise he was a leper) that sealed the deal. And I've got the name I liked anyway Grin so it's a win for me and the baby if it's a boy!

I had a great uncle called Cathal which was a name I loved. His oldest grandchild is called Kerr. Both names you don't come across any more but not likely to embarrass a child when they're older (I would always be wary of that).

Some very popular names here! Carter is top 75, River top 138.

Let’s go outside the top 2500.

Aster, Brendon, Dale, Emery, Everest, Emmet, Keane, Lewis, Noam, Stuart, Arius, Cuthbert, Hartley, Lonnie, Wallace, Genesis, Kester, Titus, Castor, Brock, Coast, Devlin, Echo, Lazarus.

Lewis and Stuart are outside top 2500 now? Wow. Loads of 30 somethings called that round here, really took a tumble.

I like Cavan, and Calvin. I know one of each.

I once knew a young man called Godknows! Seems his parents were seeking divine intervention!

Good thing you're a former teacher!

Oh, I think you'd find many teachers still working who would admit the same thing (but maybe not to parents of bizarrely named children!)

Its very elegant. I’m guessing he also pronounces it “Mike.” Does it annoy him when people say it wrong?

Very elegant, almost regal. He’s a Mike too and irritates the hell out of him when mispronounced. Not sure why people make that mistake, it’s so obviously “Mike”

Are you sure it wasn’t Godnose which looks sort of Arthurian legendish

Don't assume that what you hear kids being called in shops/parks etc are their actual given names. Mine have ridiculously nicked names that would definitely make weird lists if you heard me talking to them but they have completely normal actual names.

That’s a very good point! Laughing at what people might have thought out dcs were called!

One of mine is mostly known by a portmanteau of two animals that sort of sounds like it could be a name but very much isn't (think sharguin for half shark, half penguin) I always expect to see it pop up on one of these threads. The aforementioned Piccalilli is definitely in the rota of random affectionate words I call small people.

Why has he named one after a cat food & the other sounds like an Ice lolly?

I can’t hear Magnus without thinking of Matilda!
