Need the most unusual/out there boys names you can think of

Baby due Jan 2025. Already have a girl's name picked - don't want to say what as it's too outing if anyone knows me on here, it's an unusual rarely used name but lovely and everyone we've told really likes it and we are very happy with it.

We can't agree on a boy's name at all. I already have a DS (previous partner) with quite an unusual name but still in the top 100 but my DH definitely likes more "out there" names!
Give me your favourite unique boy names for inspiration please! We've looked at thousands of names on lists and just can't find one we like for a boy whatsoever. I know we have plenty of time (and might not even have a boy) but with my son I had his name picked before I was ever even pregnant so I'm struggling not knowing!

Ed Byrne’s sons are called Cosmo and Magnus, I’ve always thought they were out there choices. I like them, but personally am a more traditional name person.

Why has he named one after a cat food & the other sounds like an Ice lolly?

AEJISOK · 11/08/2024 21:18

Sue,
Well it did Johnny cash no harm

As a former teacher, let me say if you do choose an 'out there' name, your son's teachers will judge you and your son negatively before they ever meet him. And your son may attract bullying.

But otherwise it's great idea, so go right ahead! 😉

Edited

Good thing you're a former teacher!

Success - have managed to convince DH that Lazarus is not a good idea. I said if we have a son and he searches his name and finds out it was a dead reanimated leper he won't be impressed. So far the front runner is Ezekiel which is probably my favourite on my list

these are the less common names that various friends have chosen for their boys:

Otto
Seth
Ezra
Buzz
Otis
Milo
Mungo
Guy (pronounced the French way as Gee)
Xan (diminutive of Alexander)
Kit (diminutive of Christopher)
Sullivan
Saul

My name was quite unusual in its day. I had to repeat it several times when I was young, I was embarrassed, people always commented. I also had to spell it. It is never spelt correctly as my mother went wild and more often than not, it is pronounced wrongly, which grates my nerves.

Good job op. Ezekiel I rather like👍

Just remember the child has to live with it

UrsulaBelle · 11/08/2024 22:57

Good choice, OP, uncommon but not too out there.

I think it’s liveable! Ezekiel was a decent guy I think and Ez is quite a cute short version. And at least it isn’t Nebuchadnezzar…

Pinkwithwhite · 11/08/2024 23:09

Ezekiel is one of the main characters in Walking Dead.
Good choice :)

SpiritOfEcstasy · 11/08/2024 23:12

I like Blaise & Ernest

Love Blaise.

My grandson is Zeke - though if you call him Zekey to be cute then don't holiday in Turkey as it translates to "fucker" in Turkish!

Do you have a super unusual 'out there" name? Just wondering if you have experience of how difficult it can be to live life with a weird name. The constant comments, misspellings, jokes. The awkward moment where you have to go into a room and introduce yourself as xx and see people's faces..

Our sons called Darwin. When I called his name someone once asked me what my child’s name was as they thought I was calling out ‘darling’

SquawkerTexasRanger · 11/08/2024 23:31

You might like Josiah if you like Ezekiel. They both have a religious vibe to me

StringTheory1 · 11/08/2024 23:51

Some of the names on these lists can’t be that unusual as I know quite a few kids called them:

I wouldn’t say these are that “out there” as I personally know kids with these names….
Orlan
Ezra
Zebedee
Wulfric
Xander
Xavier
Gabriel
Gideon
Arlo
Dante

Id suggest “out there” names as being things like:

Axylotyl
Prometheus
Nostradamus
Filigree
Corpulence
Flagrante
Cumulonimbus
Septum
Frankenstein
Verboten
Capsicum
Sphincter
Verbosity
Hosiery
Kale
Artery
Hirsute
Wanderlust

Terrence shortened to Terry
Jorah
Heathcliff
Axle
Kristopher

crimpsalo · 12/08/2024 00:21

Are you religious? If so, Ezekiel makes sense. If not, EVERYONE WILL DEFINITELY assume you are, it's a proper American Christian endoftheworld cult name.
Character in recent series 'The Boys' comes to mind.
If you don't want people to assume you're a hardcore theist, would look at something a bit more demure.

Devonshiregal · 12/08/2024 00:36

If you like Ezekiel you might like Etienne. It’s a beautiful name. Though you seem to like z sounds.

Lazarus isn’t too much but he would be called Laz. Which is just blah, I feel.

I feel like your girl’s name might be Keziah. This would be my bet just based off your preferences! 😁

JackyPaper · 12/08/2024 00:39

Ace
Red
Rex
Ted

TessTimoney · 12/08/2024 00:55

Take a look at RC Saints names. I'm sure there will be some you have never heard of 🤔

Poodleydoodley · 12/08/2024 01:15

The name Gary is virtually extinct I heard.

Kneidlach · 12/08/2024 03:12

Perler · 08/08/2024 13:57

Hercules
Pinnacle
Ice
Chamonix
Fielder

Are these actual names?! They remind me of the game on the radio programme Sorry I Haven’t a Clue where two people take it in turns to say completely unrelated words.
