Will people have trouble spelling this in the UK?

I've been thinking of it for a boy but not sure if people will endlessly try and spell it as 'Zanadoo'

You are probably underestimating people's general knowledge.

DPotter · 13/06/2024 11:44

Please do not saddle a child with this name

DracoDormiensNumquamTittilandum · 13/06/2024 11:45

Will your child grow up in the uk??

PumpkinSly · 13/06/2024 11:45

This has to be a joke.

potkettleblock · 13/06/2024 11:46

Xanadont

sentfromiphoen · 13/06/2024 11:48

How about Xanano

Yeah don't call your kid Xanadu

Katiesaidthat · 13/06/2024 11:49

Uuuuhm, is it after the Abba song? I have seen disco bars and strip clubs with that name. It is a slightly weird choice?

Xanadont

Drat, beat me to it!

ACynicalDad · 13/06/2024 11:52

Why are you doing this, to be cool and edgy or because you dislike your child already and want to saddle it with this for life?

Bobbybobbins · 13/06/2024 11:54

Nooooo!

Xander is nice if you want a name beginning with X

Olivia Newton John I think you’ll find. 😀

The song was by Olivia Newton-John, not Abba.

It's also pretty conspicuous at the start of Welcome to the Pleasuredrome by FGTH

But a lot of people know it from the poem, which crops up regularly for GCSE (and which means people know how to spell it)

I don't think it works terribly well as a human name though (place names generally don't)

Was just about to say the same. Written by the fabulous Jeff Lynne.

hattie43 · 13/06/2024 11:56

It's not fair to call a child this .

Pieceofpurplesky · 13/06/2024 11:56

Please don't. Named after a song or a luxury city/ place? Read the poem.

Xanthe?

NancyPickford · 13/06/2024 11:56

@Katiesaidthat The song Xanadu is by Olivia Newton John.

HobnobsChoice · 13/06/2024 11:58

Are all your other children called Dave, Dee, Dozy Beaky, Mick and Tich?
If not then don't use Xanadu

eddiemairswife · 13/06/2024 11:58

Do you live in a stately pleasure drome?

It was by Olivia newton John and the electric light orchestra back in the 80's .....not entirely sure of the date lol

JimNast · 13/06/2024 11:59

Have you considered Agadoo or Waterloo?

heyitisthegirls · 13/06/2024 12:14

Hmm, didn't know it was so awful! I heard someone called this in playgroup a while back and liked it a lot

My other DC have names very classic and timeless. I thought this sort of name spiced things up a little!

Maybe not then. Back to the drawing board

I'd prefer Kubla Khan (sp?)

Xanadont

Nailed it.

DiscoBeat · 13/06/2024 12:31

Whenever we divulge some of the slightly 'out there' names to our teenagers that we had considered for them they say without fail 'thank god you didn't. I agree with a PP that Xander would be great, or a similar name with a short version that they can drop if they want to.

So you’d have a George, Charlotte, Emily and Xanadu? Definitely don’t!
