What comes to mind when you hear the name Bodhi?

Is it a really popular name or not so much? I’ve seen a couple on Instagram but don’t know of any personally.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Imagine being an adult and having to introduce yourself as Bodhi. 😂

Exactly.
And their not even much you can do with it to make it any better. Bob / Bobby is about as good as it gets.

Even going through school the jokes will be endless. As much as I think this generation of kids will be more open to unusual names, children havent really changed fat bodhi, skinny bodhi, anybodhi, nobodhi, the jokes will go on an on

Bluezoom · 12/05/2024 22:59

Trendy, will probably date badly

bows101 · 12/05/2024 23:11

Usually middle class parents trying to be on trend and hippy. Not a good name IMO. Bo-deeee

I know quite a few - it's popular and increasingly so

Jessieshome · 13/05/2024 11:33

I'd pronounce it Bow-Dee (bow as in ribbon in hair not what you do on stage). I think it'd be horrible pronounce 'body'.

I kind of like it. I'd think of it as a unisex name, but not sure if that is correct.

Does make me think of posh American hippie though, sort of Coachella frequenting people. I'm imagining a tanned skinny 20 something with blonde flowing hair, sequins, boots, floaty dresses, gold jewellery in her hair...
Or an equally tanned buff man, like someone else said, reminiscent of a Home and Away surfer dude character. :)

I was also under the impression it was pronounced Bow-dee and not body, but seems like many others don’t think that’s the case.

I do really like the sound of it and like the potential for the nn Bo but feel like it’s a probably a name that’s going to get some “that’s an interesting name…..” responses 😂

I'm surprised so many would pronounce if Body but I guess it does make sense.

Oh I like the nickname Bo too :) But yes, it definitely would get the 'interesting name' comment! I get those comments with one of my children, but I like the name (obviously) so I don't mind!

Needanewname42 · 13/05/2024 17:22

If you want something that sounds like Bow-dee, I'd go Brodie or Brody.

goldenretrievermum5 · 14/05/2024 02:04

Hippy and try hard. Inappropriate unless you have close links to Buddhism. Also just sounds like ‘body’, or depending on your accent ‘bogey’. It’s a no from me

merrymelodies · 14/05/2024 02:06

DD has a friend called Bodhi. Female friend.

Urgenthelplease · 14/05/2024 02:08

Very popular in Aus

Ruthietuthie · 14/05/2024 02:09

This is my least favorite name. Someone at my place of work is called Bodhi and I feel a surge of uncontrollable rage whenever there name comes up on the printer.
Bodhi for me equals a right "man bun" type. Things they are spiritual, actually an idiot.

NewLifter · 14/05/2024 02:28

I love the name op. There's been a few new babies in my area called this recently. I think it's lovely.

JMSA · 14/05/2024 02:31

I hate it as much as anyone could possibly hate a name. I'm really sorry, but it's just so ugly Sad

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 14/05/2024 02:36

My mate's dog is called Bodhi. It's a nice name for a dog.

CrissCrossAppleSauce · 14/05/2024 02:36

Lots of Bodhis in Australia. Across age groups - dads at school pick up and little kids - I am in a beach town. Pronounced Bo Dee. Seems nice enough.

grinandslothit · 14/05/2024 03:21

It sounds kind of hippy or Bogan

Allofusstrangers · 14/05/2024 15:07

I makes me think of long haired surfers, nothing wrong with that. Definitely spell it Bodhi, I didn't know there was another spelling. I think it's quite an established name, I'm surprised at people saying it's try hard.

FrenchandSaunders · 14/05/2024 15:19

James Haskell's DD is called Bodhi ... enough to put anyone off.

takemeawayagain · 14/05/2024 15:35

Surfs, has a man bun, walks around barefoot, wears a sarong, is 'arty'. I really like nn Bo but I would go Bodie rather than Bodhi.

timoteigirl · 14/05/2024 21:45

Bo reminds me of Bo Beep! In contrary to majority, I wouldn't pronounce it as "body" but with the dh.

bridgetreilly · 14/05/2024 22:30

Bodhi Zen Clinic.

It will date badly. Bodie is better, thought I don’t love it. How about Boaz?

EthnoBotanist · 14/05/2024 22:38

Man bun

thinkfast · 14/05/2024 22:44

I know 3 dogs called Bodhi.
