What comes to mind when you hear the name Bodhi?

Is it a really popular name or not so much? I’ve seen a couple on Instagram but don’t know of any personally.

Looks like it's pronounced how many Scottish people say 'body'.

GoodVibesHere · 11/05/2024 19:52

Point Break! I loved that film. So it makes me think of surfers.

GoodVibesHere · 11/05/2024 19:53

It does sound a bit like Bogie though

Lilylovetulips · 11/05/2024 19:54

Makes me think of Australia and the programme home and away?

Someone I work with named their child this. It's tye only one I've ever come across.

I think it has the potential to date very quickly

Blarn · 11/05/2024 19:54

Parents a bit hippyish. Not a bad thing, but I'd expect them to have a hippy, counter culture way of life.

Omg, that's exactly how I pronounce it. It's not a name for a Glaswegian child, that's for sure.😂

The name makes me think of Point Break, but I may be showing my age there. 😂

VeryQuaintIrene · 11/05/2024 19:55

Hippies for sure.

nightmaries · 11/05/2024 19:55

It’s a shortened form of Bodhisattva - ie The Buddha.

Have you Indian/Buddhist heritage and in a part of the world where he won’t be called “Body”?

MissBPotter · 11/05/2024 19:55

Not great, sounds very try hard to me. Will date quickly.

BillytheMountain · 11/05/2024 19:56

and Doyle

Saschka · 11/05/2024 19:56

Makes me think of Point Break, and given my age I assume similar-aged parents who use it were fans of Patrick Swayze in their teens. Which isn’t a bad thing, btw.

It does also sound like body. Or Buddy, depending on accent.

ClickClackClock · 11/05/2024 19:56

Point Break too but it's a great film...

4YellowDaffodils · 11/05/2024 19:56

Not keen.

IDontHateRainbows · 11/05/2024 19:57

Comes across a bit try-hard.

LauderSyme · 11/05/2024 19:57

I've never met one. It makes me think of Bodie and Doyle from the Professionals (but I am quite old).

It has a beautiful meaning.

This

spanieleyes · 11/05/2024 19:59

Prefer Brodie or even Bodie, but Bohdi just looks a bit " hippy community" to me.

girlgonenorth · 11/05/2024 20:00

It sounds Indian

Saschka · 11/05/2024 20:02

Sisters named Dharma and Lakhshmi (no Indian heritage). Brother called Leaf or Kai.

FayCarew · 11/05/2024 20:04

Dreadful

QueSyrahSyrah · 11/05/2024 20:05

I know one. Mum is very hippy, big part of the local surf community.

Beatrixslobber · 11/05/2024 20:09

Point break (which I love!).

I do know a couple of people with dogs called Bodhi

Hopefullymovinghouse · 11/05/2024 20:11

We know a Bodhi and my kids always accidentally call him Bogey.

Pipsquiggle · 11/05/2024 20:23

Don't like it. I know one DC called it, but spelt Bodie (which is how I would presume most people would think it was spelt)

Being named 'Bodhi' you are making that DC spell his name every. Single. Time. It's needed to be written down by someone else - which is fucking tedious. (Take it from someone who has a weirdly spelt name, it's really annoying. In fact I give my work ID card to the dentist / doctors / restaurants as they always say 'i can't see your appt / booking' because they have keyed in another 'normal' version of my name.
