Me and dp have decided that we are going to call dd3 Skye.

We both have very different taste so finding at least one that we both like is nothing short of a bloody miracle!

Everyone thats been told this has screwed their faces up and made comments like "your joking"

Especially BF who made several nasty comments and is apparently taking over as soon as i've had her and demands she comes over within 24 hours of me popping her out! (erm nope!)

please someone tell me it isn't that bad

(ps everyone seemed to like the name my brother chose for his ds due in june...miecha pronounced mika, although they have changed it now but still.....)

op, its a lovely name, i was friends with a skye, she'd be about 30 by now.

ruty · 03/04/2008 16:24

I don't think Skye is chavvy. Is Iona chavvy? Nope. I don't like Chelsea though. No no no.

iliketosleep · 03/04/2008 16:25

olivia and alicia were my top choices but dp said no

Also her surname will begin with W and end in iams.. (bet you never guess what it is lol)

I think its gorgeous..my cousin has a dd called Indie-Skye.

shreksprincessfiona · 03/04/2008 16:35

Skye is a lovely name, don't listen to any doubters or nose wrinklers.
I'm also in the mum of Kai club so am obviously biased in favour Both names very rare here- yet to have either in school.

duomonstermum · 03/04/2008 16:42

i like skye. funnily enough when i was PG with DD we thought about it. there was also the choice of iona but DH prefered iana or iliana. in the end the midwife cracked a joke about giving her the initials hrh and so when i came round from the woolliness of having just given birth her name had already been changed.... DH thought he was ever so clevershe is now constantly refered to by her initials...... DS is called Ty and he swings between liking it and not liking it. get really fed up with people asking if it's short for anything(it's not) or "is that it??" we like it and it's more memorable than the popular names.

PotPourri · 03/04/2008 16:43

Not read the thread, but I think Skye is a lovely name. Never mind what people say, just go for it if you want that.

I never tell people before the baby comes, don't even tell them what names we are considering cos I can't stand that 'oooooh, that's erm nice......' thing that some people do.

bubblagirl · 03/04/2008 17:00

my friend at school was called skye

my other friend was going to call her girl skye but didnt due to same r4eaction but settled on samara which meant protected by god

LaDiDaDi · 03/04/2008 17:05

Skye is lovely.

Victory John sounds very cool.

beautifuldays · 03/04/2008 17:21

i like it. ignore other people, go with what you want

iliketosleep · 03/04/2008 17:25

"I don't think Skye is chavvy. Is Iona chavvy? Nope. I don't like Chelsea though. No no no. "

I didn't ask for opinions on my other dcs names

I didn't really like Chelsea to start with but she really suits it

What is this obsession with names being chavvy.
FFS Have the confidence to respect other peoples choices and leave it at that

iliketosleep · 03/04/2008 17:35

I dont even know what chavvy means as far as i was concerned a 'chav' was a hoody wearing throw a brick through your window and wear my asbo with pride type thing. Then I was told it was someone who always wears burberry and stone island and goes to football matches JUST to start fights lol

I presume whatever it is though, its not good......

I think its a lovely name iliketosleep however I won't be revealing my LO's name until I actually introduce him/her to the family because if you do it beforehand people will always have an opinion but they wouldn't dare say anything if that's what you have alredy named your LO when they see him/her. People in my family are quite opinionated so they will have to keep their comments to themselves.

Probably not much help to you as you have already done the 'Great reveal' but at the end of the day it's what you and your DP like, you child, your choice, stuff anyone else

MiMao · 03/04/2008 17:56

beautiful name

hungrypanda · 03/04/2008 19:08

It's a beautiful name.

kitsmummy · 03/04/2008 19:40

I love it. It was actually our second choice for middle name (we're going with Clementine), but I do love Skye.

Leonorap · 04/04/2008 17:22

My daughters name is moneesha i gave it to her because I thought it was pretty and to sppite my posh mum who said "OH darling it sounds like a girl from the council estates" done deal then. Sometimes I rgret it a little bit as we call her Monnie and people go eh molly, money, monet and it gets tiring going haha! My son is called Luca and I thought i was being different but turns out not so but his name I love it love it love it so maybe bit unusual names are bet!
Skye I like loads it's cool if I had another I would call them Fyfe but I am a hippy - what image are you aiming for?

ruty · 04/04/2008 18:53

liketosleep. So sorry, didn't realise it was your dc's name!!! Thing is names are all very well in abstract, but when they are associated with specific children they change completely. I'm sure your Chelsea is gorgeous. Sorry!

iliketosleep · 04/04/2008 19:46

Not really aiming for any sort of image, its just been hard trying to find a name that we both like as I havn'e really had alot of say with other dc's but said i was putting my foot down this time!!

Not saying DP is controlling just got that fed up of arguing about names when we found one that was just ok we stuck with it, glad we did now but i wanted one that wowed me this time and this one has

Ruty, i was only joking as has been said not every name is to everyones taste and if you dont like the name chelsea, you dont like the name chelsea

Meandmyjoe · 05/04/2008 12:05

Lovely name, very pretty. Ignore people.

nappyaddict · 06/04/2008 09:22

i think it's a nice name

nappyaddict · 06/04/2008 09:42

for me chav isn't offensive cos people choose to be one so imo calling someone a chav isn't an insult if that's what they want to be. most people live on council estates out of necessity not because they want to live there. i know you didn't mean it offensively hana, but i can see why people read it that way and why they would find it distasteful.
