impossibly sensible and safe and dull

Orangeandnavy · 22/03/2024 15:13

Perfect. So understated and classy.

Moreteaandchocolate · 22/03/2024 15:13

Love it! A brilliant classic that’s so underused at the moment.

Overtheatlantic · 22/03/2024 15:15

Adore it!

yellowrosee · 22/03/2024 15:17

Love it. Can be Jonathon, John or Johnny ... versatile, timeless and classy

Underhisi · 22/03/2024 15:17

I like it.

TotalDramarama24 · 22/03/2024 15:20

There are a lot of lawyers at work called Jon or Jonathan. It's ok but I'm not overkeen on John just because I work in the US a lot and John is what they all call the toilet.

Topseyt123 · 22/03/2024 15:21

I do like it. I think I prefer Jonathan or Johnnie, but John is good.

MissusKay · 22/03/2024 15:22

Classic and not overused. I like it

KirstenBlest · 22/03/2024 15:22

I like it and Johnny. I'd rule out Jonathon though - it looks like a typo. Jonathan is fine but it ends up being Jon.

abracadabra1980 · 22/03/2024 15:24

Love it. Classy. About time it had a popularity surge.

TheCraicDealer · 22/03/2024 15:25

Love John, it was a strong contender for DS who was born last year. Classic and very underused these days.

Berlinlover · 22/03/2024 15:25

Very dull.

JustMaggie · 22/03/2024 15:26

I love it, a timeless classic

pambeesleyhalpert · 22/03/2024 15:55

No

Dacadactyl · 22/03/2024 15:56

Definitely a yay from me. A strong, solid and timeless name.

TM1979 · 22/03/2024 16:04

So refreshing after some of the shite names that have been suggested on here lately.
John or Johnny…or Jonno as my ds’s very cool friend goes by!

NightSkyWanderer · 22/03/2024 16:04

Thanks for the responses. I'm not that keen on it but I'd love to honour my father by naming him after him as I lost him a few years ago. Had mentioned it to a friend and she'd told me please don't name him John, so I was really keen on others opinions. I don't want to name him something that he may hate

My 4 year old is Jonathan but everyone calls him Jonny after both mine and my husbands grandfathers - I love it ☺️

Edited

what about middle name
your father wouldn’t want you to name your son a name you didn’t particularly love just for his benefit

and your “friend” sounds like a classic mumsnet “friend” ie not very nice

IggOrEgg · 22/03/2024 16:09

I actually love the name John. It’s so solid and strong, and won’t date terribly like some names! If we have another son, it’s up there on our list.
I hate Jonathon though, weirdly.

Longtimelistenerfirsttimecaller · 22/03/2024 16:11

I know a 5 year old John. It’s a fantastic name. He was also named in honour of my friend’s late father. It’s timeless as opposed to the current craze for cutesy nicknames as given names.

tsmainsqueeze · 22/03/2024 16:12

I really like it .

Timeandtidy · 22/03/2024 16:12

schnubbins · 22/03/2024 16:13
