What do you think about Chanel? Is it too chavvy or is it a respectable name? I think it sounds beautiful but I’m not sure what others might think. Is this name too tied to the luxury brand? I know there’s parents these days naming their kids ridiculous things like Gucci though.

It is no different to Gucci, which you consider ridiculous.

Very much not for me. I find the idea of naming a child after a brand very odd.

I don't see how it's any different to Gucci. It's definitely a name that is 100% associated with the brand/designer. What else would it be associated with?

Wasn't there a Chanelle on big brother one year. Still awful but less obviously a brand

It's a surname, so in that respect no "worse" in terms of provenance or "legitimacy" than, say, Bailey or Ryan or Madison or Taylor. Or Gucci. If it's a family name, I wouldn't necessarily be put off of using it, but otherwise it might be heavily associated with one specific family that's not yours.

Chanel Miller is the name of the US author who went viral on BuzzFeed outing herself as the plaintiff in the infamous Stanford Rape case after the convicted rapist got a slap on the wrist, and then wrote a best-selling memoir about her ordeal. She has a sister called Tiffany.

Shanelle is a different name.

OP, Chanel is the epitome of tacky names. Definitely as bad as Gucci or Versace. Chardonnay is the only one worse (because as well as being tacky you are naming your child after a bottle of alcohol).

I knew one in my year at school, I’m in my mid thirties. It was fine, she never got any comments or nothing. It’s a pretty name when you think about it.

I mean, at least you aren’t trying to spell it “Channel” (yes there was one!) TBH, it sounds like a fake name used by someone for their character at a strip club etc. (I knew a lass who worked at such a club and she made a fortune, but she did not use her own name, she used something like this instead)

My honest answer is that I would assume chav.

Sorry makes me think about the movie Boy with Chardoney, Dallas and Dynasty.
