Nickname for a girl named Sunday

Hi all,

I’m pregnant with my second daughter, due in a few weeks weeks and we’ve decided to name her Sunday. I’d love some nickname ideas that aren’t “Sunny”.

Middle name will be Victoria just as an FYI.

Thanks all!

If April, May and June are names, why such distaste for Sunday?

FYI, both my DC were born on a Sunday but my mum was born in January and her name is June.

Hey OP, if you do decide to continue to read, I'm sorry you felt the need to log off from your own thread. Mumsnet can be a wonderfully supportive place sometimes, but it is also full of try-hard wanna be mean girls, and just deeply unpleasant people (as evidenced here). Ignore them, they thrive on drama and attention.

Fwiw, I think Sunday is a beautiful name. I know one, and know of another. The former is a friend of my eldest child. She is 21 and just goes by Sunday. Lovely young woman, her name really suits her. The latter is in my youngest child's primary school - year 4, so 8 or 9yo. She goes by DayDay by friends and some of the teachers. None of the kids bat an eyelid at her name. Why would they - the school also has a little girl called Diamond, two boys called Cosmo, a boy called Bear and a twin girls name Chilli and Scout, all of which I would argue are more unusual than Sunday.

Congratulations on your baby OP.

FedUpMumof10YO · 18/03/2024 05:32

I do actually like it.

Would you consider it as a middle name instead?

May
Jay

Una

Despite the responses to this post, I am sure lots of children have day names after the success of the Wednesday Addams series. At least Sunday is easy to spell 😅.

Someone will spell it Sundae.

Riapia · 18/03/2024 06:54

Easter.

Skodacool · 18/03/2024 06:58

OP, I think the only possible nicknames are Sun, Day, Sunny, or Sund. What’s the problem?

Alainlechat · 18/03/2024 07:24

How about Dee?

Oh Chardonnay is also awful but i think there’s something particular about Sunday which will likely increase teasing. So many phrases…Sunday roast, sunday brunch, sunday lunch, sunday service, sunday trading hours, sunday funday….

Yes those aren't great but at least they aren't words you use much in everyday life. I've used the word Sunday quite a few times this week, such as "are you coming over for dinner on Sunday" "what time does the show start on Sunday" etc so I can't see how it is somehow a beautiful name, and if anything makes me think of it as son day rather than daughter.

Panicking23 · 18/03/2024 08:48

I lean towards preferring traditional names, but I think Sunday is lovely! I actually quite like Sunny too, if she turns out to be a happy and easy going baby. It would feel sarcastic if your SIL uses Sunny and she's an upset baby, especially when reading between the lines your SIL isn't your favourite person in the world 😂.

Sun/Sol is maybe an option too, or a nickname based on a feature/personality trait once she's here.

Beautiful3 · 18/03/2024 09:10

You can't control nick names. My friend is called William, nick name Will given by his parents. All his friends call him Willy. My other friends nick names seem to end in y too e.g. Suzanne became suzy, John is Johnny etc. Sunday is definitely going to become Sunny to her friends.

What is wrong with swearing?

Obviously nothing to you, and lots of others. I found it rather rude in tone, and frankly I was taken aback by it. Yes that is no doubt a "me" problem. I just wonder if you would be so coarse as to talk to somebody like that in rl, when completely unwarranted.

ChanelNo19EDT · 18/03/2024 09:43

@Axx actually, is that not Sundae !?

I used to work in mcdonalds in the 90s bit of an expert here Grin

Ariela · 18/03/2024 10:22

I know a Sue (whose name is actually Sunday). Don't understand why Sunny isn't liked by you

MaybeRevisitYourWipingT3chnique · 18/03/2024 10:28

I may be mistaken, but I'm sure I read that the ice cream dessert was actually named after the day of the week - but the 'y' was deliberately changed to an 'e', to make it slightly more ambiguous, so that people would be just as happy to buy them the other six days!

KirstenBlest · 18/03/2024 10:40

Sunday Victoria, Monday Waterloo, ...

Easy - Easy like Sunday Morning
Praise
Ice-cream Sunday
Sunday Roast

Fraaahnces · 18/03/2024 10:51

Btw, I forgot to mention that I work with some STUNNING young women called Faith, Tuesday and Sunday who are all creative, talented, beautiful, intelligent and utterly delightful human beings. (Trust me - you really can’t hate them. I keep looking. They’re all genuinely supportive of each other and every other member of the team. Feminists in every positive way.) In fact, I wish I had half the poise at 50 something that these women have at 19 and 20. Oh and the point I am laboriously getting at is that nobody shortens their names or teases them for their names either.

KirstenBlest · 18/03/2024 10:53

@Fraaahnces , is it relevant that they are STUNNING, young, creative, talented, beautiful, intelligent and utterly delightful?

Sunnnybunny72 · 18/03/2024 11:06

She would get Sunders round her.

BobbyBiscuits · 18/03/2024 11:20

Call her 'Light' like sunlight. 'Alright light?' If she is being daft you can say 'oh, the lights gone off'. In Spanish there's a popular name that means light called Luz. Pronounced a bit unfortunately as loose, lol.
It's a cute enough name anyway. 'Dayday' as a babyish nickname?

Fraaahnces · 18/03/2024 13:58

Would you feel better if I told you they looked like the back end of a bus? They are stunning. They’re all actors and singers who work very hard at their craft. I’m just saying what I see. They have also been very instrumental in encouraging my dd2 out of a final year of high school crisis not helped at all by a stroppy older sister. They’ve all taken her under their wings and been very supportive and I’m very, very grateful.
