Hi all,

I’m pregnant with my second daughter, due in a few weeks weeks and we’ve decided to name her Sunday. I’d love some nickname ideas that aren’t “Sunny”.

Middle name will be Victoria just as an FYI.

Thanks all!

The UK is a multicultural state.

Sunday is rising in popularity, currently ranked about 850 put of the top 1000.

It is indeed. Does not stop Sunday beung a name that must people find silly.

OnHerSolidFoundations · 17/03/2024 22:38

"It would be ideal if she was born on a Sunday but obviously the odds aren’t really with me on that one, and I figure that nobody really talks about what day they are born on!""

They will if you call her Sunday!

OxQP · 17/03/2024 22:40

Sunday is a lovely name, and not that unusual or odd, I don’t understand people’s reactions on this thread! I would use Dee as a nickname.

OnHerSolidFoundations · 17/03/2024 22:41

Not that long along people were naming tiny babies things like Gary, Norma and Fanny.

🤣🤣🤣

LenaLamont · 17/03/2024 22:45

If a “nickname” like Bonnie or Blithe/Blythe works, why wouldn’t the OP just call her baby either of those?

It seems odd to me to choose a name then choose something other than that name to use day to day.

Sunday’s fine as a name (although everyone will if that’s the day she was born, it’s inevitable). But if you need something else for actually referring to your little girl, maybe have a rethink
🤷🏻‍♀️

I don't understand all these posters saying it's a lovely name. Yes it's technically a name but it's a day of the week! And it's more masculine sounding than feminine.

Why bypass literally millions of names to call your baby after a day of the week? Saturday is apparently a name too but people wouldn't use that. I'd be embarrassed to use the name in public.

Cocothecoconut · 17/03/2024 22:55

Please dont
it might seem quirky now but think of the teasing as they get older

I don't think you can speak for 'most people'.

It’s just a matter of personal taste isn’t it, if you acknowledge it’s ‘technically a name’, it’s hardly Apple or Satan or something. I dislike the sound and associations of many names, both popular and unusual, I can’t understand why anyone would think ‘Emma’ sounds nice for example, but they obviously do! And I don’t think they’re wrong, just have a different opinion. To me Sunday sounds both beautiful and strong, it contains one of the happiest words in the English language, I like the sounds of the letters in it, and think it would suit a range of personalities, shy, outgoing, sporty or clever. I also like names that are used globally, but are recognisable and not too directly borrowed (like there are some arabic names I love but it would be weird for me to use them).

There is absolutely no way to tease proof a child.

Teasing has nothing to do with specific names.

BebbanburgIsMine · 17/03/2024 23:06

Why does she need to have a nickname? Sunday is a pretty name. I personally cannot stand nicknames, I always insist on my proper name, so do my two DDs.

Violetparis · 17/03/2024 23:12

The answers on this thread show that naming your child Sunday will mean she gets made fun of, I'd think again.

That’s just mean. And old fashioned…
Brunch.

Actually Best is a lovely nickname for Sunday.

ButterflyKu · 17/03/2024 23:19

The person that said Sunny D😂😂😂😂😂

It’s one thing to call your child Sunday. It’s something completely different to sit around and wonder what nickname you’ll give little Sunday. Can’t you just come up with some natural and organic once she’s born?

ButterflyKu · 17/03/2024 23:20

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 17/03/2024 19:20

I'm getting bugged with people who refer to shortening of names as 'nick names'. A nick name is an alternative name that someone is called, so something that most often has absolutely nothing to do with their actual name.

What most people mean is a short form of their child's name, not a nick name. And there's not much point in prescribing the short form (or indeed the nick name), as these will arise organically when the child is here.

This!

donteatthedaisies0 · 17/03/2024 23:20

I would hate to think she would end up with gravy or chicken when she is older or even service .

PostalPanic · 17/03/2024 23:22

'Ski'
'Dee-Dee"
'Sol'

Love that she'll have her own 'Sunday Girl' song!

I quite like it.

Sundays child is full of grace. Maybe Gracie or Grace.

No that's Tuesday

Sunday is bonny, blithe, good and gay (original meaning)
Bonnie wouldn't be a bad alternative

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 17/03/2024 23:39

Sol.

Sun in Spanish.

donteatthedaisies0 · 17/03/2024 23:42

Don't do OP , I know what primary school children are like , even if their name rhymes with silly words they will make up names in playgrounds .
You've had all the words here kids will associate with the name .
