Nickname for a girl named Sunday

Hi all,

I’m pregnant with my second daughter, due in a few weeks weeks and we’ve decided to name her Sunday. I’d love some nickname ideas that aren’t “Sunny”.

Middle name will be Victoria just as an FYI.

Thanks all!

Wow, what a bunch of spiteful nasty comments from a group of women supposedly meant to be Mums. If you don’t like the name then fine, I wasn’t asking for opinions on it, move along and take your bad day out on someone else.
As for the true definition of a nickname, I didn’t realise that would cause such a problem, I’m looking for something it could be shortened to, if that’s not “officially” a nickname then I do apologise!

Roast?

scrivette · 17/03/2024 19:44

Names tend to just evolve - DS' nickname is after his favourite food as a child. If I had a Sunday she would probably be Sunshine or Sunflower, I don't like to shorten names.

CestLaVie123 · 17/03/2024 19:44

"...Monday, Happy Days!"
I'm not saying that to be mean, I just think that the name will create nicknames you can't control.
Honestly, why Sunday OP?

What did you expect Sunday to be shortened to if not Sunny ? There's not a lot of other options in there really. I think Sunny is lovely & would prefer that to Sunday if it was my name.

MississippiAF · 17/03/2024 19:44

The thing is, when you ask a bunch of strangers on the internet their opinion on a name, they’ll be honest.

When you ask family and friends, they might just give you a nice diplomatic answer.

Don’t ask if you can’t take it, but if you use this name, this is a straw poll verdict of what people really think.

And ‘mums’ are just people.

BarryKentPoet · 17/03/2024 19:44

Roast

Dearover · 17/03/2024 19:45

Yes, but judging from the silly comments, posters seem unaware of that fact. Nicole Kidman named her daughter Sunday Rose.

But Nicole Kidman's almost certainly went to school with peers called Greengage, Orvis, Montage and Symbol. Sunday would be Top 10 by comparison.

blCkmagic · 17/03/2024 19:45

Sun or sunny would be the go to names.

I didn’t ask for opinions. Not once.

I asked for nickname ideas.

Honestly, why Sunday OP?

Because I like it….. would have thought that was obvious…

Daisy?

pinkwaterbottle9 · 17/03/2024 19:47

Sunday Bloody Sunday

DinnaeFashYersel · 17/03/2024 19:48

It's not a great name but if you must just call her by her name. No need for a nickname.

Octopuslethargy · 17/03/2024 19:48

Geebray · 17/03/2024 19:24

You do understand that you are naming an adult Sunday?

Maybe the OP is from a heritage where this would be more typical- it common in Ghana and possibly other African countries. (although not usually translated to English)

Google tells me it is common in Jamaica as well.

pinkwaterbottle9 · 17/03/2024 19:48

IggOrEgg · 17/03/2024 19:48

I know a little Sunday, it’s not a name I’d choose but she’s not my kid so 🤷🏼‍♀️, and she’s always Sunday, it’s never shortened. I have to say, I think it’s a bit strange to be trying to find a diminutive for a name you (I’m sure!) love for a baby who isn’t even born yet… nicknames and such tend to come in time and much more organically.

StopStartStop · 17/03/2024 19:49

Daisy, obviously.

CestLaVie123 · 17/03/2024 19:51

Also:
"we’ve decided to name her Sunday. I’d love some nickname ideas"

People have given their "ideas" OP. You just don't like them. People are being honest about how people will respond to that name now and in the future.

I know, and ideally I’d wait for something organic, but my DSIL has form for dolling out nicknames/shortened names based on her preference and I guess I just want to be prepared with options I like!

Are they African heritage evangelical Christian? (or maybe it is more common than I am thinking) I think that being named after days of the week is more common in some countries and maybe faiths. I have met a Wednesday before

Phial · 17/03/2024 19:54

If you are not keen on Sunny, then use the day part, dayday or daisy.
Nicknames are more likely to evolve from the day Sunday, so roast, lunch, school or maybe brunch.

IggOrEgg · 17/03/2024 19:55

Ah, that I can understand OP. My mother has similar form!

As for ‘my’ Sunday’s heritage, no, white British through and through.
