This is somewhat inspired by the resurrected prettiest girls name you know thread.

I wondered when you went to school what was the girl with the name you likes the most called?

I didnt grow up in the UK but for me her name was Karina. I thought her name was so pretty and unusual (it's a fairly normalish name for my generation in Denmark think top 50-100) but oh I had name.envy. grew out of it and Karina never even entered the consideration for my own children.😁

Top five, to my mind, attractive girls names from my school:

Fotini
Zara
Kirsten
Cass
Cathy

Clair. Always seemed so aloof.
No idea what happened to her. She was in my primary school. I can’t remember her after that.

thesnailandthewhale · 14/02/2024 08:59

Camille ... seemed very exotic amongst the Sarahs and Janes

Me. Sarah

This is such a classic Sarah thing to say 😄 (my mum is a Sarah 🙄) Glad you’re happy and confident, Sarah 😄

We had a girl called Mireille, which I'd never heard before and thought was beautiful. We also had a girl called January, which we thought was the coolest name ever.

InfiniteUsernames · 14/02/2024 09:05

There wasn’t much variety in names. So probably one that stood out from the rest, Verity.

Very unusual in those days. I’ve heard it more recently.

happyinherts · 14/02/2024 09:05

Gabriella - she was also popular, clever and a good all-rounder. We'd never heard of Gabriella before, thought it was lovely, before people shortened it to Gabby.

Dayna

In a year group of Helens, Traceys, Susans etc then Sophie was the "pretty name". Obviously far more usual now.

1984Winston · 14/02/2024 09:08

Leona

Giselle

Odette.
Amongst a sea of Sarahs, Caths, Janes, Louises, Rachels, Angelas Claires etc it was so beautiful and different.

Sandysandwich · 14/02/2024 09:10

Cherry and Rani.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 14/02/2024 09:12

Gaylene
Michaela
Marguerite

In the late 70s there was a girl called Leonie in our school. Apparently, she and I were envied by all the Traceys, Sharons, and Debras. My name is one that’s fairly usual now but was seen as classy then and there was only one other even at the large secondary school

shearwater2 · 14/02/2024 09:13

Emma and Stacey. But more because I though the bearers of the names were really pretty.

Wexler1216 · 14/02/2024 09:13

Late 90s - mid 2000s:

Primary - Coral, Saskia and Amelia
Secondary - Ruby, Marina, Eva and Harriet

The most common names IIRC were Abby, Hannah and Jess!

Dayna

I have a colleague with this name and she completely suits it. She is a really lovely person and so pretty! Very similar looks to Jodi Comer.

Dottina · 14/02/2024 09:20

We had a lot of the expected names - tonnes of Laura, Rachel, Claire, Emma, Jennifer, Victoria, Louise, Gemma etc

I remember noticing that all the Heathers, Sophies and Natashas were really pretty at school!

I don't honestly remember noticing a stand-out pretty name though...there were some unusual names but they were especially nice to my ear. We had a Dylan and an ainsley for example (all girls school). I'm not keen on those names tbh.

My favourite names were Emma, Rachel and Rebecca. I still like those names a lot, but they were pretty run of the mill at school.

LadyBird1973 · 14/02/2024 09:20

Charmaine at primary school.
Lara at secondary

Dottina · 14/02/2024 09:20

This was mid 90s - early 00s

eandz13 · 14/02/2024 09:22

Sheridan and Emily. I still think they're lovely names

Advent0range · 14/02/2024 09:22

Melisa. Sounded very exotic

Edinburgal · 14/02/2024 09:22

Annabel
