This is somewhat inspired by the resurrected prettiest girls name you know thread.

I wondered when you went to school what was the girl with the name you likes the most called?

I didnt grow up in the UK but for me her name was Karina. I thought her name was so pretty and unusual (it's a fairly normalish name for my generation in Denmark think top 50-100) but oh I had name.envy. grew out of it and Karina never even entered the consideration for my own children.😁

Morna. I don't like it so much now but absolutely loved it in my teen years.

Sylvia - it may have been spelt or pronounced slightly differently

At primary school, early to mid 1960s, the girls whose names I liked most were Christine, Carolyn and Janette.

I started senior school in 1967 and loved the names Antoinette, Prudence and Sonia. Didn’t like the girls though.

Angelika - didn’t especially like her but she was never going to be run of the mill with that name

Friends sister was Odile and that sounded foreign which was exotic to my young midland ears!

Either Marissa or Marcella. 8 year old me loved their names.

Briarly (pronounced like Bryony - of which there were a few in my year - with an 'l'). Just seemed so much prettier!

Sisters (from a Scandinavian country but forget which) called Jocasta and Imogen.

Francesca, who was also the daughter of a member of a very famous band so seemed terribly glamorous 😅. Still one of my all time favourite names, love Frankie as a nn too!

I longed for a pretty name like three of my friends - Anabel, Jasmine and Maxine. They were all lovely girls and I admired them all for different reasons, but their names were the prettiest of all the other girls in my school (in my six year old opinion!)

Corinne, Juliet, Felicity.

Boy, did they stand out amongst the Sharons, Tracys, Julies, Alisons, Debbies and Jackies.

Oh and briefly there was a girl called Vashti, which I thought was beautiful and exotic.
Also Verity. And Honor.

Isobel - she had the most glorious dark brown curly hair.

There's an Isobel in my DDs class at school, spelt that way. She is the funniest, cheekiest but also loveliest girl. DD is slightly jealous of her name to, says it's "Lovely to have so many vowels in"

PinkSpottyUnicorn · 01/03/2024 18:24

I always wanted to be called Alice, I still love the name but it was the name of one of ExHs family members so couldn't use it for DD.

Saschka · 01/03/2024 18:27

In school, Luisa. She was also an incredibly pretty older girl, which may have influenced me.

Uni - Katarczyna.

I knew a clementine which I thought quirky if not pretty. And a Virginia who was very posh indeed and wouldn't have it shortened to Ginny.

Astrid. I’ve always thought it sounds ethereal yet strong, and kind of artistic. I’ve yet to meet an Astrid who isn’t impossibly cool.
