This is somewhat inspired by the resurrected prettiest girls name you know thread.

I wondered when you went to school what was the girl with the name you likes the most called?

I didnt grow up in the UK but for me her name was Karina. I thought her name was so pretty and unusual (it's a fairly normalish name for my generation in Denmark think top 50-100) but oh I had name.envy. grew out of it and Karina never even entered the consideration for my own children.😁

There was a study a couple of years ago that confirmed Pamela was the "happiest" name. Pamelas in general felt high life satisfaction at any rate! I know a very nice Pam.

I get that. All those lovely syllables and no other name like it.
Apart from maybe Kamala.

Alison. Early 80s primary school. I still remember her surname and how pretty she was.

ScottyDoesntKnow · 14/02/2024 12:08

Ooh I just remembered one, not from school, but I girl I made friends with on holiday once. Her name was Ursula. Like the sea witch! I just thought how amazing someone is actually called this. She was a v v cool 90s indie girl. Louise Wener vibes. Maybe “pretty” isn’t the right word. But she rocked that name and made me think of it as beautiful.

Sasha. She was a really cool person too.

WestLondonMummyToBe · 14/02/2024 12:25

Amelia. It was unusual back then. Not like now!

Myridiculousstomach · 14/02/2024 12:41

Louisa and Tara I think. I also remembered being intrigued by Siobhan - I didn’t especially think it was a beautiful name but I’d never heard it before at the grand old age of 11.

RaininSummer · 14/02/2024 13:02

Maria. Always liked that.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 14/02/2024 13:06

Wendy. I was about nine or ten, so late sixties, and all I could think was how she suited her name. She was dark haired and incredibly pretty, and just so 'Wendy'.

Incidentally Wendy is my middle name and I am sooooo not 'Wendy-like'.

Elltothebeetothejay · 14/02/2024 13:07

Gayle - I used to want to be called that at primary school! Then Kirsten, which in the 80's was cool, and Nordic!

This is such a classic Sarah thing to say 😄 (my mum is a Sarah 🙄) Glad you’re happy and confident, Sarah 😄

I do like my name a lot lol

Nicebloomers · 14/02/2024 13:26

Anouska- so exotic in a sea of Kelly and Donna’s. I have what was/maybe still is considered an old lady name so whilst uncommon, it isn’t glamorous.

calexico · 14/02/2024 13:32

Colette. It seemed very exotic in the 80s.

Serena

When I was about 6, there was a girl in the year below me called Crystal and I thought it was the most beautiful, fancy name in the world. 😆

Other than that ... I really think most people had very normal 80s and 90s names. There was an Ophelia which seemed really exotic in North West England but I didn't particularly love the name. I liked the names Joanna and Amy the most, I think but that's probably because they were just lovely girls.

It's only since about 2000 that I've noticed a much wider variety of really amazing names - especially for girls.

Lucy. Not unusual but pretty. I went to school with a Jean. Didn't seem odd at the time but it was as i started school in 1977 not 1947! Lots of Cathy, Claine Rachel's, Andrea and Joanne. Know 2 Karen's and thought it was unusual at the time!

In the late 70s we had an American girl in our class called Tammy-Lee.
