Having our first baby, I have only one name and it happens to be the same name as my husbands brothers child, we never see them maybe once a year. Would you use the name?

Did you mean your brother?

Dara99 · 11/02/2024 22:21

Yes, just use it.

Dartmoorcheffy · 11/02/2024 22:21

Did you mean your brother?

Why would she mean her brother?

Tatonka · 11/02/2024 22:23

No. Unless it's a family name. Surely you can think of something else

Highfour · 11/02/2024 22:24

No I wouldn’t personally

Oh sorry just seen the edit!

AndThatWasNY · 11/02/2024 22:24

I personally wouldn't. Or if you did have a chat with BIL and SIL first and check they are 100% ok with it. Unless it is Oliver or something equally popular.

orngelemonapple · 11/02/2024 22:24

i wouldn’t

boysmuminherts · 11/02/2024 22:25

No, definitely not. That's a bit weird. There are plenty of other names. Plus my aunty did this.

TeaKitten · 11/02/2024 22:26

No. There are loads of names out there, pick another

Prizefighter · 11/02/2024 22:26

God no. That’s obnoxious.

You really can choose another name.

4Bangles · 11/02/2024 22:26

I have the same first and last name as 4 of my cousins. My brother has the same as 9 of our cousins and we all mixed every weekend for 20 odd years. I think its quite sweet tbh, wouldnt bother me if someone picked my sons name which is pretty rare.

2chocolateoranges · 11/02/2024 22:27

No I wouldn’t use it, it would mean their grandparents would have 2 grandchildren with the same name.

pick another name.

kaytyy · 11/02/2024 22:30

Has the name got family connections for you?

Is it really popular?

I'd be inclined to use as a middle name and choose another first name.

TheSmallAssassin · 11/02/2024 22:30

So your husband's parents would have two grandchildren with the same name? That would be a bit strange for everyone.

likepebblesonabeach · 11/02/2024 22:30

I wouldn't, one of the woman at my work has 2 grandsons with the same name and she said she can't understand why her dd chose the same name as her sister, tbf it was a family name but still caused problems

828Pax · 11/02/2024 22:33

No I wouldn't

Onelife2024 · 11/02/2024 22:37

I wouldn’t use the same name as a first cousin, unless there was a very different short version you could choose (e.g. Alex vs Xander for Alexander) and your husbands brother was happy with it.

Boomboom22 · 11/02/2024 22:39

Definitely not.

Get yaself a baby book of names.

ChangeAgain2 · 11/02/2024 22:50

I have the same name as my cousin. We are big changeagain2 and little changeagain2. I don't like being referred to a big and she doesn't like being referred to as little. We have a 10 year gap.

Of all the names in all the world yu have to pick the same as your nibling. I think its sad. I also think your child deserves their own name. Honestly,no one wants to be called big, little or older, junior.

toastofthetown · 11/02/2024 22:55

I wouldn’t do it. My siblings’ children’s are probably the only names I would consider totally off limits for my children. And I’m usually the poster saying the names of friends or colleagues’s children are totally fine to use.

coxesorangepippin · 11/02/2024 22:55

I know cousins who are Noah and Nora

It's just a bit too similar

lifebeginsaftercoffee · 11/02/2024 22:56

I wouldn't do it. There are millions of names to pick from.

Notsuredontknow · 11/02/2024 22:58

No, DH and I really liked a name when I was pregnant but didn’t use it purely because my cousin had called her baby it.
